TV- advantages and disadvantages Most of us spend a lot of time in front of the TV set. Therefore it is useful to think about the advantages and disadvantages of watching TV. It is important to begin by saying that in my view the greatest problem is that violence on TV makes people violent. Especially if children watch too much crime some of them begin to act like one of their action heroes and hit their classmates and friends. Another point to consider is that TV, in general, disturbs the development of children. Many parents let their children sit in front of the TV set for hours even if they are not older than one or two years. It is okay for young children to watch TV half an hour or an hour per day; however if they watch more they speak less than other kids of the same age who don't watch so much TV. A further problem to note is that TV destroys family life. In many families the TV is on the whole day, even during the meals. As a result the communication between the family members is very reduced. Moreover, people who have no family become lonely if they watch too much TV. Instead of going out and meeting friends they are at home and watch "the real life" in front of the TV set. My opinion is that TV influences people too much. Most of us believe everything that is televised. I think you should form your own opinion and not think that what people say in chat-shows, for example, is true. On the one hand people who watch TV all day become couch-potatoes. This means that they get fat and lazy. But on the other hand TV helps lots of minority sports like squash or snooker to become more popular and get more active players. Furthermore TV shows the world the problems of minorities and helps to understand their issues. Or it appeals to the viewers to help poor people with a donation after an earthquake for example.
