The Prom – both curse and blessing An ambiance of immense excitement filled the hall. Lingering backstage, anticipating my turn as an exhilarating chill passed down my spine, I recalled the situations that lead up to this night. The holiday had just ended and I was back at school. Although I loved the holiday, I had yearned for the company of my friends. In the midst of our amusement emanated an announcement that the Prom was going to take place in four months. In an instant, the Prom became the prevalent topic of the discussions taking place at every corner of the classroom. Dresses, jewelry, shoes, ties, suits, accessories, partners were the dominating words that echoed across the classroom. It was going to be the most talked about event in school. My eagerness protruded Since I can remember, I had been imagining the perfect Prom Night. I would be entering as Cinderella and be adored by everyone. My prince charming would be waiting to escort me to the danceflooor and everyone would watch us as we danced. We would eventually be crowned the king and queen of the Prom. It would be magical. But, unfortunately, life is not a fairytale. It took almost a week to get permission from my parents. They were eventually persuaded and we had a long chat about the budget that was going to be spent for the Prom. There was so much to be done and I had to get started. All I could think about was that I had a chance to make my dream come true. Opportunities like these are rare and I was not going to lose this one. The next step was getting a partner. The first name that came to mind was Jason, the guy every girl desired, including me but he already had a girlfriend so he would be going with her. I had to find someone else. Days went by and I still hadn’t found someone. This was going to be a disaster. How could I go to the Prom without a partner? Everyone would think
