Dissertation Proposal summary BA (Hons) Professional Studies The Progression, Implementation and Development of Sound Amplification Proposal summary 1. Task The main task is to conduct a viability study on a subject of my choice in an effort to gain an idea of how well this subject would work as a main written project. This will be around 3000 words in length and is titled: The Progression, Implementation and Development of Sound Amplification 2. Motivation The reasons for my choice of project include: • I am currently performing regularly in a local group which relies on these technologies. • I have a personal interest in the differences in methods for sound amplification and reproduction. • A better understanding of the varying methods will ultimately lead to an improved ability to set up more efficient and more specific amplification systems. • I would like to find personal reasoning or justification for apparently ‘better’ or ‘warmer’ sounding amplification with the use of vacuum tube driven amplifiers and power amplifiers. • A study of these systems (and pre-electrical/natural amplification) and how/why they have been implemented will hopefully also enable me to better understand sound projection and environmental effects on sound in a given location or room. This will prove more than useful for me in other areas, in my music recording and production for example. 3. Aims and objectives of the study My specific primary aims for this project are to both understand the differences mechanically in how the sound is amplified and how different physical layouts and arrangements affect the sound produced and preferred in different environments. 4. Questions which will be answered through research A brief history of amplification will be addressed through these questions: • Where/why did sound
