I refer to the report “Snarring Your Quarry” (Stars, Oct 10). We fall in love when we meet people who meet the criteria we have. However, most psychologists nowadays talk about a new fact which is that love can hardly happen if there were no physical attraction in the beginning of the relationship. Well, smiling make you more confident and can increase your overall attractiveness. I will focus on topic of smile as the first thing editor said in the article was ‘I might smile at someone at a party if I thought he was cute’. Do you know a research found that women find a man more attractive if they saw other women smiling at him? Smile makes the first impression perfect. If you smile to someone, it is an action of love. There is nothing like a smile to create a good first impression. A warm and confident smile will put both at ease. So smiling is a winner when it comes to great first impressions. But don't go overboard with this – people who take this too far can seem insincere and smarmy. I would like to give a simple analogy. When two cats meet for the first time, they stop and look at each other. If one hisses, the other bristles his coat and hisses back. However, if the first kitten gives a little nudge with its nose and the other kitten responds in a similar way, then the two cats will end up purring together and licking each other's coats. In this case, the right body language for the cat to make when he first saw the other cat would be to nudge the other cat with his nose. If he was to hiss instead, he would spoil the relation with the other cat. Human beings also have similar body language practices when they meet for the first time. But, the problem is most people are confused about them. Most people are not sure what they are supposed to do. They do not rely on their instincts and so they do not know what is to be done.
