Think about the different roles people play in society and the labels that are given to them: nerd, geek, goth, hipster, cool, etc. The term “cool” gets used a lot in society today, to describe people, buildings, locations, games, and so on, but have you ever thought of how that plays a part in culture? There are many elements that make up what “cool” is, what it means to be “cool”, and the benefits it has on our culture. Everyone has their own personal definition on what they believe to be “cool”. You can see the way others view what is “cool” simply by observation. Looking at the way people dress, speak, walk, eat, and the places they go is a clear indicator of what they find “cool”. Some people like wearing leather jackets and combat boots, where others may prefer to wear sneakers and ripped jeans. “Cool” can simply refer to everything; it all depends on you, and your personal taste; what you find entertaining; what you find comfortable; what you find to be a joy in life. What it means to be “cool”. Have you ever sat and thought about the meaning of “cool”, and how it plays a role in society? “Cool” can mean where you stand socially or in the work place, whether you are at the top of the social ladder, or the bottom, but who determines who is at the top anyways. It is all on how you view yourself and those you spend your time with. Everyone wants what he or she cannot have; this is because they do not know what it is like to have what they do not have.
