“likes” measures the about of new likers of a brand. b. Carmex: engagements are more important than likes because you can have people “like” pages with promotions without any knowledge of the product or true interest to ever purchase the products. A lot of ‘likes can provide inaccurate information due to the amount of individuals that simply click it without reading. 3 a. Engagement: Connecting to the Facebook audience by posting quality content daily that might attract consumers and gives them an opportunity to engage.
Is Google really making us stupid? Nicholas Carr, a technology writer poses that question about the internet and asks readers to give it some thought. He makes suggestions that the internet is changing the way our mind works and that it has negative consequences on the mind. Carr believes that we should be skeptical of the internet because of the adverse ways it may be shaping the way we think. Thinking critically about his article, I can find some patterns in his writing, such as fact and fiction, presenting evidence with an argument, cause and effect, and tonal qualities.
Nicholas Carr is the author of the article “Is Goggle making us stupid? Google proponents say that it’s not, they say that we don’t have to use our memory as much as before. Thanks to Google we have more time now to daydream or brainstorm. Or that we can see Google as an huge external hard disk for our brain. Carr thinks that this is bullshit.
Carr thinks that the net makes people dumper because he proved the net makes people scattered and superficial thinkers. I agree with Carr. Until I read this article, I was thinking the internet makes people smarter but the scientific evidence turned my thought. In additional on his thought, I think the net wastes a lot of time of our lives. Carr said that “ People who are continually distracted by emails, alerts and other messages understand less than who are able to concentrate.” (qtd line 9).
The author admits that when goggling, he would sometimes, “sneak into other pages because of some attractive features or because of curiosity and forget about his work.” However, his opinion is baseless as internet - Google in specific - will actually sharpen the society’s knowledge and expound their level of thinking (Carr 533-541). The article also refers to Plato’s “Phaedrus,” part of the section that opens up counter-argument. It reminds us that various technological changes stretch far back–and that
More than describing his reasons, he hopes that many other people identify with his ideas, so he don’t feel as the only one who degrades computers’ function. Berry’s article draws attention of the audience because we live in a society that barely looks up for reasons for not buying not only computers, but also any other technological advance. We live on a pro technology world. Past generations might always seem technology as an enemy because it is hard for them to catch up with technology. Berry’s intention to persuade readers depends whether the reader agrees or disagrees with his reasons.
Disadvantages of QR Codes Besides some people not knowing what a QR code is and its purpose, there are other disadvantages to QR codes. One of these disadvantages being that not everyone has a smartphone. “Though they are quite popular, not everyone in the world owns a smartphone, so the use of QR codes is not available to everyone.” (Svensson, 2012.) Along with the smartphone, a QR code reading application is needed. According to Dollan, “Health care marketing professionals suggest that the uses for QR codes should be creative.” (Dollan, 2011.)
Contrary to Parker-Pope’s assertion that technologies make us more forgetful, they actually help give us access to important memories. Dr. Abouhaoude, a reference in ParkerPope’s article, asks “whether the storage available in email and the internet may be preventing us from letting go, and retain many old and unnecessary memories at the expense of making new ones.” Having access to those older memories, documents and information allows us to have the mental space to make new ones. For example, computers can store passwords and other important information that in the past people would have to remember. Cell phones serve the same purpose with phone numbers. Without trying to remember so much, people can focus on new and interesting information.
While this application has its benefits I am sure I also see several disadvantages to it. The major one being the fact of using a device while driving takes away from your awareness on the road. The application while I am skeptical on its real benefit it’s only on the Iphone which shows it’s not economical for those it may benefit the most. That is what I see wrong with most technological advances that they are for those that can afford them not for the majority of the population. I would even update my Iphone with this technology if I drove more just to see how well the application works on my
Tevin Hutchinson 11/10/2012 English 102 Technology plays a huge role in our everyday life. I do believe that technology has made our lives easier, but it also has made us more dependent on the technology itself. When using the internet for a dictionary you could easily get distracted. Anyone can put anything on the internet, so what you find might not be accurate. Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network.
