Minimum wage represents a government involvement in a nation economy, although businesses are often wary about the prospect of the government making major economic decisions. In the U.S., Congress sets a federal minimum wage that businesses must follow. Individual states can also create separate minimum wage laws above the federal law. Intervention from the federal and state government can create a difficult business environment. Governments may choose to increase minimum wage on an arbitrary basis, making it difficult for companies to hire individuals at a consistent market rate.
"Working Capital Management" Please respond to the following: Examine the key reasons why a business may not want to hold too much or too little working capital. Provide two (2) examples that illustrate the consequences of either situation. The right level of working capital depends on the industry and the particular circumstances of the business. For example, businesses that only sell services, and do not need to pay cash for inventory need a lower level of working capital. Businesses that take a substantial amount of time to make of sell a product will need a higher level of working capital.
At this time they would need to provide cheaper price to attract their consumers and to increase the demand. They would have to reduce the number of staffs as it may become difficult to pay wages. This leads to rise in unemployment. During recession businesses also tries to get loan from the bank and the bank wants to see their financial statements and if they find out that the business is not capable of paying the money back then they won’t lend any money therefore, the business may have to find new way of catching customers attention. For instance, they may be able to start up with a new idea.
It is also possible that managers do not adopt maximising behaviour at all, perhaps “satisficing” in response to shareholder discipline or that the policy of the firm is the result of complex interactions between various stakeholders. An For a firm to profit maximise, it would be the case that it sets output where marginal cost is equal to marginal revenue. If an additional unit of output were to be produced beyond this, it would add more to the firm’s costs of production than its revenue, thus reducing profit. The diagram below shows profit maximising output and the corresponding price, read from the demand curve. It also shows some other possible objectives for the firm.
M4–Analyse the reasons why costs need to be controlled to budget In this assignment I will analyse the reasons why costs need to be controlled to budge. If costs are not measured by Debenhams then their profits will be badly affected therefore budgeting is one process to regulate costs as it gives the organisation an approximation or a target on what their cost and revenue should be. A business has to budget and control expenditure in order to see what has been received and paid out, otherwise unrestrained spending could occur and decline could happen. One of the difficulties that could occur if costs are not controlled to budget is: high fixed cost per item which decreases businesses profit and ability to compete. Debenhams are very effective at controlling its costs to budget as the results were good for sales revenue throughout 2013.
Political factors are important for Tesco to cover when planning HR, From a shift in local public opinion to a change in government or even a new industrial world superpower entering the market, politics influence how much funding is available, how much tax must be paid, minimum wage rates, how markets are controlled. Tesco need to consider the external economic factors, this is because how much money is available for salaries, training and equipment is the most immediate concern in human resource planning, however, external economics plays an equally critical role. For example, people don’t have as much money to spend in an economic downturn and are normally much more selective in what they buy or what services they use. This means some industries, such as those producing luxury items or
Proponents of the notion of a "political business cycle" suggest that: A. The standardized budget is a better indicator of the state of the economy than the actual budget B. Cyclical swings in the economy are produced by the inherent instability found in capitalist economies C. A possible cause of economic fluctuations is due to the use of fiscal policy for political purposes D. There is a tradeoff among goals that tends to make the economic policies of state and local governments procyclical 19. Some people are better at physical labour which usually means lower paid jobs rather than those who are academically minded which in our society means higher paid jobs. Finally, some people can gain wealth to inheritance and trust funds, and they have opportunity to build up their wealth through investing, unlike those who start off with nothing. There are two major social disadvantages of inequality. First one being that there is a class division which causes tension between people with different jobs and regions. This can lead to disputes between people, which will in turn bring about an instable society which can lead to an economic disruption.
Jack Johnson Johd Jackson College Composition II October 11, 2010 Outsourcing America Eliminating or reducing American companies trend towards outsourcing could lower the unemployment rate and expedite the economic recovery. Outsourcing is one of the major causes of the current economic collapse. Outsourcing takes jobs away from Americans, and without the ability to work it further reduces the disposable income that is greatly needed in order for the public to buy goods and services. These are the goods and services that will fuel the economic growth that is necessary for recovery from the current downturn in the economy. When you outsource, or offshore, jobs you also eliminate the American workers ability to pay for consumption.
Big advantages need to be broke down for their financial value and smaller advantages might seem to be more difficult to measure at first, but they will ultimately give the business more financial opportunity in the future. If the assets surpass their cost of accomplishment, the assets should be broke down using capital budgeting and figure out if they will see a good sizable profit compared to the capital that the company must invest in. A company needs to arrive with information systems plans that satisfy the business plan and approach, and correspond with their existing information technologies. Using scoring models and portfolios breakdown can both be used to help evaluate information systems
