However, the reality is that the result of some hate crimes does affect the victims in a monetary way. Of the 7,164 reported hate crimes 41.8 percent were against property (fbi.gov, 2013). Acts carried out were cross burnings, defacement of property, and destruction of property that have cost the victims a great deal of money to repair. There are cases when the damage or intimidation has caused the victims to relocate or purchase fire arms to protect themselves (Barnes & Ephross, 1994), which is another expense directly contributed to the crime. Not only does the person(s) under attack financially suffer, but the city and community loose too.
Customs officers are expected to do their job and put a stop to the drug trafficking but the temptation of making some extra money may be extremely strong. Money is the root of all evil and a lot of people are very selfish. For an example, they know the effects drugs have on a society as a whole but if the price is high enough, they may turn their head and allow the drugs to be brought in. Not only is this wrong, it is damaging to everyone. “It is believed that the loss of the drug trafficking industry in Mexico would cause that country’s economy to shrink by over 63 percent” (DrugAbuse.net, (2012), para.
Law officials are more concentrated with crimes that involve violence. These electronic crimes are not cheap nor easy to bring to justice. Computer fraud is usually very complex. Most of the government employees that prosecute the perpetrators lack the appropriate computer skills.
Murder: Baltimore vs. Denver Murder is considered one of the worst crimes in the world today. It happens throughout the world and quite often within the United States. This case led to the questioning of whether the legal system is effective for the individual and the community and whether it really brought justice to the victims of crime. A large proportion of society feel let down by the legal system, as a mechanism put into place to protect and bring justice has obviously failed in this case. The fact that serious sex offenders who place a black mark on the well being of victims, both physically and mentally being let off in less than 20 years caused a lot of conroversy. Although it may be argued that 55 years was a harsh penalty and didn’t warrant the crime, the victim’s of the crime received a much harsher sentence, a life of trauma and a constant feeling of alarm. Denele Crozier a Women's Health NSW executive officer asked the question many women had asked after the appeal was established ``How many times do women have to be constantly let down and disappointed by the legal
People commit robbery because they cannot afford something due to lack of jobs. Property crimes are the most committed crimes since the economy has gone bad. In saying this Shalom says that since many of the inmates are of lower income the state is expected to pay for both sides of the defense. So it is not really a cost-effective solution since the rates of lawyers are very high (5). The author brings up the common phrase “an eye for an eye”. Many people would feel this to be true. Shalom gives the example of Coretta Scott King who had a husband and mother-in-law killed in an assassination.
In the prestige ranking I think they are the most important because they are the highest ranking. Some experts argue in favor of class-based affirmative action. That is, giving people born to lower-class families an advantage in college admissions and company hiring. Do you think that society should do something like this? Why or why not?
One way a country can show it has a good economy is by considering the country’s GDP (PPP) per capita. Seeing as USA is the only current superpower in the world, taking their GDP (PPP) of $54,800, considerably more than certain other countries such as China ($12,900) and Russia ($24,800). However, it must be considered that GDP (PPP) per capita is not entirely accurate in measuring the strength of a country's economy as it hides the gaps in wealth in the population. Consequently, A country with a few billionaires and the rest living in poverty would probably have a pretty good average. This would not be considered a superpower due to all the people living in poverty.
Universal Health Care System There is a saying from Chinese, “Health is wealth”. In the United States, American government does not care a fig for healthcare system because American government thought American healthcare system is better than other countries in the world, and it had experiences about healthcare system.
