Writing is the foundation of almost everything that is essential to surviving in today’s modern world. No one is excused from having to write in order to achieve basic levels of success, and it is ultimately how one is judged. Writing is vital for success, that is in school, the workplace, and amongst ones peers as well. Being able to write is especially important because it allows us to use today’s available resources, which almost always require one to be literate. As consumers, we use written information to decide where to vacation, what movie to see, which cars are reliable, and whom we should vote for. This is very important since they are things that directly impact our everyday lives. One who is capable of writing well is capable of expressing creativity, intelligence, and emotion into something that could influence many lives. We live in an Internet savvy era, which has consequently resulted in the revolution of the way information, is shared. There are on-line job sites, networking sites, and social sites. Writing and technology combined allows information to be stored in masses. Making it available for future generations to come. While it is true that having access to an endless amount of information online might confuse people, on the other hand it also allows students to explore inventive ways of learning. This closely relates to the statement made by Atwan in his article ““Reading, discussing, and writing will force you to clarify your observations, attitudes, and values, and as you do, you will discover more about yourself and the world.”(45) Basically affirming that having the gift of literacy allows for imaginative ways of applying ones knowledge and understanding the world works things works, all while also gaining insight on ones self.
