The Importance of Parks in The Cities The city is a great place to live. Everybody’s needs can be found there such as hospitals, supermarkets, malls, and everything else. Due to these facilities, people prefer to live in the city. For this reason, cities are now overpopulated which can cause pollution leading to bad health, traffic jam that can lead to stress, and many other bad effects. Therefore, many cities have found that urban parks can improve the quality of life in a city, considering their beneficial effects on the economy of the city and the physical and mental health of the citizens. One major reason why parks are important in a city is their economical benefits for the government. These benefits come from several reasons. Parks attract visitors, tourists and even local citizens. These visitors are actually giving a push to the local economy. According to Economic Benefits of Parks (2011), parks can bring visitors from everywhere, and visit restaurants, hotels and stores, and even attend concerts and events, and therefore give a push to the local economy. In addition to that, parks can be beneficial in helping saving natural resources, for example water. Usually parks use surfaces that can capt rain water and store it instead of wasting it. Economic Benefits of Parks (2011) stated that pervious surfaces in parks take the rainwater and store it. This increased storage helps saving money when it comes to water treatment coasts, and thus improving the local economy. Another reason why parks in cities are important is the physical health of the citizens. Usually parks use green spaces, using trees and grass and plants. These green parks help reduce the city’s pollution, and thus help avoid respiratory problems.
