The increasing diversity of the United States requires a pluralistic view that recognizes the mutual benefits and contributions of multiple cultures of the country (Klein & Chen, 2001). Though there are several benefits, diversity creates unique problems that contribute to problems faced by the United States. Diversity may create ethnocentrism and this in turn leads to biased attitude and racist behavior towards other people. There may be the inability of an individual to regard another ethnic group as equal or valid members of the society. Many of the social problems witnessed in the United States can very easily be attributed to the diversity that exists in the country.
Have to do that internally. The leadership needs to start initiatives within the company that can be incorporated not just at the Company Q headquarters but also at each of the stores as well. Begin with having the leadership of Company Q being serious about the attitude change by having them travel to each of the stores and talking to the stores employees about social responsibility. Having the leaders learn more about the communities through the employees. By doing this then the Company Q leadership can institute changes corporately as well as locally because they would then have an understanding the unique situations that each store has to contend with in each of the different communities.

This perception of belonging has been influenced by both Peter Skrzynecki’s ‘Immigrant Chronicle’ and Shaun Tan’s graphic novel ‘The Arrival.’ Cultural identity often plays a large role in our sense of self and allowing us to feel as though we belong. If we are unsure of our cultural identity
Thokozile Nkosi W130/Bye 14, September, 2012 Culture and Success In author and publisher, Gary Colombo’s essay “Thinking Critically, Challenging Cultural Myths”, he claims that culture greatly affects our lives. He asserts, “our most dominant cultural myths shape the way we perceive the world and blind us to alternative ways of seeing and being” (4). Here, Colombo demonstrates that, depending on what our culture thinks is acceptable our point of view could hinder us from experiencing different things or different point of views. Likewise in writer and civil rights activist, Malcolm X’s essay “Learning to Read”, he discussed how his vocabulary was perceived as great when he talked to other people on the street, but when it came to talking to an educated person like Mr. Elijah Muhammad. Elijah Muhammad was an African American religious leader and Malcolm X’s mentor.
This upbringing is called our culture. Culture in this sense is the language, beliefs, vales, norms, behaviors, and even material objects that are passed on to us from our former generations. With this culture embedded into our brains, it is often hard to see and examine the world in any other way besides the one we were raised in. Sociology, then, is a way that helps us to look at the world
EFFECT OF DEVELOPMENT ON AGRICULTURE IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA, CAMEROON AND ETHIOPIA UNIVERSITY OF ILLIONOIS AT CHICAGO GEOGRAPHY 151, FALL 2012 IDRIS YATOU TA: WALKER The history of Africa is one riddled with European feudalistic, capitalistic, and imperialistic influences. France, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain colonized and exploited Africa’s land and resources, particularly in the nineteenth and twentieth century. Many of those colonized African nations were crippled after gaining their independence from European colonizers; and several have not, unfortunately, been able to successfully develop an autonomous and healthy nation-state. There are some areas of Africa that are worse than others. In particular, Sub-Saharan Africa has
One of the major factors contributing to the change of marriage in the United States is the economy. The transition from an agricultural economy to an industrial economy definitely impacted the formation of the family forever, especially for African Americans. As our economy changed so did gender roles; which is another agent in family formation. Though women didn’t enter the workforce in vast numbers until 1970 or so (Hattery-Smith, p. 46), they have caught up and even passed their male counterparts in the African American community, causing conflict between the normality’s of American life and their own realties. Gender role differences aren’t the only reason African American men are being surpassed by their female counterparts in earnings, but because of incarceration rates.
