Kittrell Introduction To Human Services Liberty University Online Abstract Military families deal with many difficulties such as having to move frequently or having a parent away from home. One of the greatest challenges military families face is the deployment of a family member. This research paper discuss the impact deployment has on military families and focuses on the phases of the deployment cycle, effects on marriages, children, and different types of interventions and programs used to overcome the stresses of deployment. To understand knowledge regarding deployment and the effects it has on military families, special focus is given to the cycles of deployment phases in which research suggest poses different types of stresses on the family member who is leaving and those who are left behind. Intervention programs have proven to be effective and to enhance the wellbeing of military families and their lives pertaining to deployment. Introduction An ongoing issue in the lives of military families is managing the stress associated with the deployment cycle (Esposito-Smythers et al., 2011). Deployment is stressful and challenging for both the service member and the family members who stays behind. No matter how long the deployment lasts, the family will have to take on different family roles to ensure that their daily lives can be carried out as smooth as possible. Phases of Deployment Pre-Deployment. During the pre-deployment phase or “mobilization,” the service members begin to prepare to leave for war, the impending family separation may raise concerns about finances, employment, childcare, and emotional support (Swenson & Wolff, 2011).
