Seasonal workers are needed during companies’ labor peaks, when a company needs to produce or provide more services for a certain amount of time. There are many ways and places to recruit such employees. By forecasting, companies can estimate the amount of employees that will be needed to fill the jobs the labor peak will create. Companies must choose which recruiting method works for them and the employee Review/Analysis of the Case If companies cannot fill vacant seasonal jobs with workers under the H-2B visas, the companies could use temporary employees or fill positions by outsourcing. Using temporary employees and outsourcing do not build an in-house pool of talent, but by these means staffing levels can be quickly and easily modified” (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2009). Overtime is also a temporary solution but may exhaust the company’s employees. It is the companies’ decision to choose which solution works best in each case. For short-term labor peaks overtime may be the solution but for a longer season temporary employees or outsourcing is a better choice. By outsourcing, companies can save money and fill positions to help during labor peaks. The companies should “choose outsourcing firms that promise to deliver the same or better quality at a lower cost” (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2009).
