Sometime after the 1240 AD, the Islamic world heard wind of black gun powder, and then made their own recipes. (The History.) It was used for the first cannon in battle and was basically equivalent to explosive powder. The cannon and use of gun powder reached Europe around the same time as the Islamic World. The revolution of guns has become
The French Navy had completed an ironclad, La Gloire, in 1859, and The British Royal Navy had completed their own ship, Warrior, in 1860. [i] By the time the Merrimack and the Monitor engaged each other in Virginia, many other European countries either had produced or were building ironclad ships. However, the first battle between two ironclads would be what changed naval warfare forever. The term “ironclad” can be somewhat misleading to some. These ships were not entirely constructed out of iron, but instead were built with wooden hulls and decks with the outside of the ship being encased in thick iron plates.
I could see the seams of the ball rotate as the ball rifled toward the batter as he began to swing--already too late. Mr. Newton, and Mr. Nash were tops on the long list of people I needed to thank. Which got me wondering whether it would be a good idea for baseball major leagues to recruit consultants who are not only well versed in physics, but also in game theory? It could become a new career option for kids like me to pursue. And who knows, maybe one day, after college, I will be sitting on the sidelines helping someone like Derek Jeter better his game.
Director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer created the movie “Cinderella Man” a film based on a true story of a boxer named Jim Braddock. Staring Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger and Paul Giamatti. It was about his life after losing his boxing money in the stock market crash and how he got back into boxing after. The movie did a magnificent job on portraying the great depression but didn’t exactly go along with what truly happened in the life of Jim Braddock. The movie inspired by the life of legendary athlete Jim Braddock, once a never knocked out light heavy weight boxer forced into retirement after repeated losses.
Sam says, “When I look back over my life, I realize that at the most critical stages, someone was there to reach me with exactly what I needed”(35). When Sam’s father divorced his mother that allowed him to venture out, and get into trouble, before he started getting into trouble his brother had introduced him to Reggie his martial arts teacher at the age of 10. So Sam had someone to look up to and teach him discipline. When Sam got into trouble remembering Reggie was a part of his life allowed him to reflect back on what he was taught, and confirmed there was a better road to travel. When Sam got into certain situations he remembered what Reggie taught him while taking Kung-Fu lessons, Sam was taught how to mediate.
With the Glorious Revolution (1688), England's foreign policy took the anti‐French path it followed until 1815—a path that led to four wars before 1775. These conflicts spawned a British nationalism with powerfully anti‐Catholic overtones.
His style then became simpler, replacing the experimentation of his earlier years with a more mature approach that used every note to its greatest advantage. He rerecorded some of his earlier songs with great results. In 1924, Armstrong enjoyed a brief stint with bandleader and arranger Fletcher Henderson in New York City. By the time jazz pianist Lil Hardin, who would become the second of his three wives, persuaded Armstrong to work independently around 1925, he had switched from the cornet to the trumpet. During the next few years he made recordings fronting his own musicians; depending on the number assembled, they were known as the Hot Five or the Hot Seven.
He is a convicted felon. He has no chance of getting in the Hall of Fame the first year, and likely won't for many years to come. Some will vote for him using the logic that he was already a Hall of Famer before he started using performance-enhancing drugs. He already had three MVPs, 400 homers, 400 steals and seven Gold Gloves. But that logic is challenged by some people, such as Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy, who contends that in golf if you shoot 31 on the front nine and you cheat on the back nine, you are disqualified for the round."
These revolutions followed the American and French Revolutions, which had profound effects on the Spanish, Portuguese and French colonies in the Americans. Simon Bolivar was an influence of the Latin American Revolution. His goals were to mold the former Spanish colonies of South America into a confederation just like the U.S. The Latin American War of Independence comprised numerous wars and conflicts which took place between 1808 - 1829. He fought against Spanish rule in 1811 with the inspiration of George Washington.
Being under Spaniards control, the Cubans had limited freedom and decided to take actions into their own hands. “The Cubans struggle for independence from Spain. Ten years guerilla war had followed a Cuban revolt in 1868” (658). This battle between the Cubans and Spaniards was called “Guerra de los Diez Años” which means Ten Year Wars. The United States took interest in this conflict and decided to provide the Cubans with materials to help them.
