The Health Benefits of Tea and How to Incorporate Them Into Your Everyday Life

Dominic Dawkins Karen Thacker Pre-AP English IV- 2B 05 March 2012 It’s Not Just Tea Anymore For the last five-thousand years, in Chinese medicine green tea has been used for anything from headaches to mild depression. However, in the last century health scientists and doctors have studied the five basic types of tea: black, green, white, oolong and pu-erh trying to find all of the health benefits each type of tea can offer. Throughout my research of the five basic types of tea, I will strive to educate the community on each of the health benefits they can enjoy from a cup of tea, sip by sip. You may be asking why tea? Well it is very simple; tea is the all-natural cure all. Aiding in things like cancer treatment and helping cure many types of illnesses. One example is the same amount of caffeine you get from an eight ounce cup of coffee is almost two times the amount of caffeine in an eight ounce cup of tea. Like stated prior, tea is a natural cure all; in all of my research I have not found any other coffee to have the same health benefits or better that you can get from any cup of tea. I personally have found different changes in my own health from tea, curing anything from a sore throat to helping me get over the flu. All tea comes from the same type of plant, Camellia Sinensis, after the tea leaves are picked off of the plant the varieties come from humans. What I mean by this is that the only reasons that there is multiple types of tea is because people process each of the leaves differently, such as black tea is the leaves that are withered, rolled and oxidized. Oxidation is the same thing that happens when you take a bite out of an apple and set it on the counter and leave it for an amount of time and it will start to become brown.
