“The Happiest Days of Your Life” The point of view of the short story is a third person narrator, who is not in the story. As it is shown in the very first sentence “The boy sat on the back seat…”. It is also a non-omniscient narrator, because we do not know what Charles is thinking. Except in some places the narrator is an omniscient and knows a bit about what Charles is thinking. On p. 25, l. 24-25 the narrator tells us that Charles is feeling that the floor under him is unsteady and falling. The last line shows us likewise that the narrator is an omniscient, “Next term we’ll mash you” (p. 59, l. 7) is telling us that Charles is thinking about the sentence that one boy said to him. The boys that go to the school seems that they are arrogant and have extremely wealthy parents. They do not sound open-minded or fond that a new boy is starting, as they are teasing Charles for being the new boy soon. My impression of the school is disturbing; to see that parents think of their child’s successful future and not their lively childhood. In this short story the main character is Charles. Charles is still a little child; he might be around 6-7 years old since he is about to start preparatory school. His outer appearance is contained with black hair, large ears and his clothes had the
