William ART-111 Module 2 Writing Assignment: Grotesque old woman. When I first viewed Massy's Grotesque old woman I noticed right away how very unattractive this old woman is. Her facial features are very masculine and rough. Her hair has receded tremendously. She looks like she has been stuffed into her clothes. Her right hand looks almost arthritic and deformed. At first glance, to me, this woman has had a very hard life. As I studied the picture more, I began to see she is well dressed. She is wearing rings on both hands. The way she is dressed tells me that she is a wealthy person or comes from a wealthy family. She looks as though she started her life as a poor peasant woman and somehow managed to become wealthy. She has gone from being poor to being rich. The power of this “ugly” imagery makes me wonder if this is a real person or if this is how the artist sees people with money. I know a woman like this. She is beautiful with long hair and almond shaped eyes. She has great skin, a great smile and she always smells good. But the way she acts makes her look like the grotesque old woman. My list for beauty in the human form is as follows. 1. Long hair 2. Tanned skin 3. A healthy shape; not to heavy and not so skinny that you can see every bone in her body 4. Natural beauty; someone that does not need a bunch of makeup to be pretty 5. Well-manicured nails 6. Nice clean teeth; not stained from smoking, or missing from poor dental hygiene 7. Great smile 8. A nice kind soul 9. Loves to laugh and
