Receiving a vaccine trains your body to fight off a disease. Similarly, training America’s youth to handle difficult situations can prevent future problematic situations. The second part of Benjamin Franklin’s quote says, “Wise and good men are in my opinion, the strength of the state; more so than riches or arms.” This quote references the quality of men that are in a country, and how a single man can make a greater difference than any amount of riches or arms. Riches and arms are only temporary things, but a good man has a more lasting impact. One of the greatest examples of a “good man” is Martin Luther King Jr. which is a name recognized throughout the world.
A hero is a person who is brave, does great, and is admired for doing so. Stereotypically, a hero is a vigilante who fights crime daily and may even have a costume. Nevertheless, a hero does not have to be a man in spandex, nor does he have to save lives but rather, he must be willing to sacrifice in an act of selflessness. Heroism can be found in the novel ‘The Outsiders’ by S.E Hinton. These heroes are known as the Greasers.
When people do things for the right reason, others may think less of the people working toward good causes. People making important decisions should not care what others think as long as the right decision is made for the right reasons. Dr. King did what he thought was right for equality, which in the end cost him his life. He didn’t care that many white people disliked him for his outspoken beliefs. This quality clearly distinguished him as a great person and leader because he was willing to put his life on the line to get his dream to become a
John Smith, at best, was a hero, let’s say who has ego issues, lacks the value of human life, and loves a bloody adventure. Smith thus embodies the American dream—he’s the admired leader, gets to be in the middle of head-spinning action, and is irresistible to the ladies. William Bradford, though, appears to be opposite in personality; never seeking thrills or "sinful" fame. His dream, which he did live out to some extent, was to be a servant leader and teacher in the New World's
The Crucible Arthur Miller “Better to be a strong man with a weak point, than to be a weak man without a strong point. A diamond with a flaw is more valuable than a brick without a flaw.”(BrainyQuote; William J. H. Boetcker) Humans are bound to sin and make flaws all throughout their lives. The Crucible by Arthur Miller does an excellent job in exploiting this flaw. John Proctor shows us during the story that he’s an honest, proud and very strong man. This helps him find a way to cope with them may help you understand yourself more effectively.
However the one thing he desired most that money could never buy was his love and passion for Daisy. Gatsby believed that he could win the love of the woman he longed for by showering her with materialistic items. Tom also took great pride in his earnings and believed he was a better man because of them. He exclaims, “Now don’t think my opinion on this matter is final just because I’m stronger and more of a man than you are” (Fitzgerald). He, along with Gatsby feels content with the unnecessary materialistic items that he owns.
“A successful man is on who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him” -David Brinkley “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him,” a quote by David Brinkley means to me that a successful person is someone who takes all the opportunities given to him. It is a person who takes the responsibilities given to him to go further in his life and uses them. It is like in “To Kill a Mockingbird,” where Atticus’ perseverance did not stop when trying to prove Tom Robinson’s innocence. It is also just like the reporters who go to Iraq and fight to stay alive and still report back to their country what is happening. That is what the quote means to me.
Caesar was not a strong enough leader for Rome, a booming city that was quickly accumulating knowledge and wealth. He needed to be stopped before he turned Rome into a monarchy, or even a dictatorship. Brutus did not kill Caesar out of jealousy or hatred. In fact, he considered Caesar to be a good friend of his, while Caesar returned these feelings. Despite this, Brutus was more loyal to his country, the land he calls home, and the people with whom he shares it with.
Jay Gatsby was a poor boy that turned into a very wealthy man, but did he live the American Dream? Money is actually the only thing that Gatsby had a lot of. Jay Gatsby tries to live the life of The American Dream, but fails in his battle. Gatsby certainly lacks many of the qualities and fails many of the tests normally linked with greatness, but he redeems this by his exalted conception of himself. Today society sets their goals by planning the future
If you say Hulk was the strongest I would tell you to put him up against Beowulf. If you told me Captain America was the best hero id tell you Beowulf the best, yes indeed. No one can compare to Beowulf supernatural strength, wisdom or bravery. He was loved by some and hated by many. He did his time and that was plenty.
