The False Moon Life is not easy to make out, and most of the time it is unpredictable. Sometimes we think we are doing the right things, when we realize it is only a sublimation of what we really want. Most of the time it is easier just to follow the obvious pathway that is lightened up by lamplights. However, the easiest way is not always the right way, the one that solves our problems. This is what the short story “The False Moon”, written by Shirley Golden is about. It depicts the development of a boy and his relationship with his mother. There are streets which are lightened up by streetlamps (line 5), and not far from the house there are railway tunnels where the walls are covered with graffiti, and old tins of paint lie on the ground (line 16). The main character lives with his mother who works shifts in the nights (line 2). They do not seem to be very well-off. They do not have any glasses in the house, because it is expensive (line 50+51). The narrator also removes the batteries from the TV remote to get his torch to work (line 31), and he has to spend his lunch money on the tins of paint (line 30), which shows that they have little money, and have to reuse things, because they cannot afford buying new stuff. The narrator is a lanky and skinny boy with eyes and lashes like a girl (line 15). He is a boy of few words who does not put up a fight, but is easy not to care when something bothers him. He does not want to be at school which is seen when he leaves just after the registration (line 29). He also thinks the other kids in his class are losers, and he often sits alone (line 22). The narrator explains that he is not good
