The Florida Everglades. The Ecosystem that I have chosen to research is The Everglades. This wetland ecosystem is nearly two million acres. This National Park stretches from central Florida (Orlando area), all the way south to Florida bay (Miami area). The Everglades is also known as “The River of Grass” because of it's saw grass marsh. Location. • • • • Coordinates: 26.0 degrees N- 80.7 degrees W The Everglades are located in Florida. The Everglades Stretch approx. two million acres (3,125 square miles). They Stretch from Central Florida all the way to South Florida. Biotic (living) Components ● There are many living components in the everglades. The two most wellknown species that inhabit the Everglades are the American Alligator and the American Crocodile. Both the Crocodile and the Alligator are both on the endangered species list. The two other animals that are at the forefront of the endangered species list are the Florida Panther and the West Indian Manatee. The Florida Panther is the most at-risk animal with only about 80 still left. Over 350 different birds are in the Everglades. Some of the species include the Ibis, roseate, spoonbills, egrets, herons and wood storks. There are native birds and also birds that migrate to the everglades. Also, there are many different snakes that are along side of the Alligator and Crocodile in the reptile family. There are many diverse plants ranging from sawgrass and bladderwort to pine trees and orchids. ● ● • Abiotic Components. • • • • • • Annual Max Temp: 83.3 Degrees Annual Min.
