M2- Self awareness is the ability to know myself, my abilities, limitation and what is my personality is like. Self awareness is a very important tool to have as it helps me to be conscious of my limits and areas for further development. It is hard to do this with a friend because we may not want the friend to know who we really are. Before we can professionally help others as counsellors, we need to be self aware. This is because of the nature of the role of counsellors.

I have to act in the person’s best interest but instead of encouraging them to avoid risks I have to support them and enable them to taking part in activities. I have to act in the individuals best interest, keep them safe, carry out risk assessments, promote informed choices but also respect their decision and right to live their life as they choose. If the risk seems great to me I would document it and discuss the matter with my manager. Another area where duty of care dilemmas may arise are confidentiality issues. When a confidential information is shared with me and it concerns safeguarding and there is a possibility of harm or someone’s wellbeing is threathened I might have to make a decision and disclose this information.
Gaining reassurance and acknowledgement is another form of communication it is always admirable to gain and give compliments. When one is acknowledged for the work that they have done it will impact into the work that is being done. Other reasons why people communicate are to discuss a situation, make a point or outline a concern and develop learning. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work Effective communication is a two way process. The person communicating has to make sure they are giving the right message, but also needs to make sure that it is being correctly received and understood by the other person or people.

Being assertive is touch for me because I am so nice. I try my best to not say things that could possibly hurt someone’s feelings even if people speak disrespectfully to me. I have to learn to be more assertive and straight to the point. A good leader is a good communicator. One important tool in communication is assertiveness.
They are willing to see that others have the sincerity to work with a diverse group of individuals. The guidance of right and wrong directs the challenge of the time. When ethical principle are violated there is little room for compromise. Being the obligatory person finding yourself solving conflicts are often frustrating. Personal Ethical Statement My personal ethical statement Referencing to the ethical inventory I fall under the rights and responsibility lens, It states that I use reasoning skills to determine my duties as well as the universal rules that each person should obtain and follow. My core values are autonomy and rationality over equality. I tend to lean towards protecting the rights of individuals and I am not swayed into believing that individuals should be able to do what they believe is to be right even if others claim that the results are not fair for everyone in the community. I tend to moderately prefer rationality over sensibility. I also find that I use reason to find the rules of life but my actions are tempered my sensibility, being flexible as I strongly follow my intuition and heart.
