The effects of Technology on Human Nature Professor Jeanette Trammell Demetria Towmsend February 11, 2015 Technology has been around since the beginning of mankind. From fire to the super computer technology was meant for advancement of mankind which it has done. Technology has done so much it also has hindered mankind. People no longer sit and chat now they rather text and tweet. Technology has taken away from human-to-human interaction. The average American spends more time using media devices than any other activity while awake (Where the media day takes you. 2005). So do you ever think how technology has affected your life? Technology has done so much for mankind it brings people from all over together to helping people find long lost friends and relatives. Cell phones have become our best friend and our worst enemy. 65 percent of adults with cell phones say they have ever slept with their cell phone on or beside the bed (Cell phones and American adults, 2010). Sleeping with your cell phone poses a few health risks. Some studies show that cell phones and other LED devices give off what is known as a blue light a type of light that studies suggest can inhibit the production of sleep-inducing hormones melatonin and disrupt our circadian rhythms (3 reasons not to sleep with your phone in bed, 2010). This light simulate daylight which makes the body think it is daytime which makes it harder to sleep. In relationships cell phones, tablets, video games and computers take away from quality time. Technology distances people from one another. Partners even see it as disrespectful. When your partner is trying to have a conversation and their partner is starring into a tablet they fell as if they are being ignored even being replaced by a device.
