A solution to the Amex problem would be to temporarily shut down their company since they can’t handle being truthful to consumers based on their false advertising about the Blue Sky program. Temporarily shutting down the company would address the problem by making Amex realize what they are doing to consumers isn’t okay. The government has a federal agency called the Division of Advertising Practices that need to monitor advertisements more carefully because the government needs to stop these crimes immediately. The government should step up solving these crimes faster because Georgia Peanuts was selling salmonella-infested peanut butter to the public for MONTHS before the government did anything. Amex was scamming people for 9 YEARS before the government found
Suzy Woodell Johnston 6/7 In Class Write Analysis: Introduction December 14, 2011 In the book Fast Food Nation by investigative journalist Eric Schlosser, he introduces his thoughts full speed ahead and gives many facts and commentary to make the reader agree with his point of view that fast food is indeed a horrible trend right now in society. Schlosser’s intent in this section is to make the audience sit back and realize just how terrible fast food is and its effects on our world today. Schlosser discusses that even young, adolescent children are drawn so firmly towards the industry, “a survey of American school children found that 96 percent could identify Ronald McDonald. The only fictional character with a higher degree of recognition was Santa Claus. The golden arches are now more widely recognized than the Christian cross” (Schlosser 4-5).

In January of 1930, the “Times” ran a story about Americans suffering from “mass suggestion” (698). The media tried to encourage Americans that the Parrot Fever was a hoax. It was stated that it was just a bad “heebie-jeebies” (698). The 1930’s was a very harsh time for the United States. To escape the harsh realities the press turned this “man killing disease” into a joke.
57 District 12 is pretty much the end of the line. 83 “Excellent! You almost look like a human being now” says Flavius 62 There’s no me now to keep you both alive. 35 I stole eggs from nests, caught fish in nets, sometimes managed to shoot squirrel or rabbit for stew, and gathered the various plants that sprung up beneath my feet. 51 It's hard to hate my prep team.
He acknowledges that the Party's actions are wrong and rebels with a purpose opposed to rebelling against elders. While in the room Winston buys for himself and Julia, she enters with a bag full of food and other goods you can not usually purchase. "The smell was already filling the room, a rich hot smell which seemed like an emanation from his early child-hood, but which one did occasionally meet with even now, blowing down a passageway before a door slammed, or diffusing itself mysteriously in a crowded street, sniffed for an instant and then lost again" (page 117). The line from the book shows that Big Brother is taking over everyones memories slowly. Winston letting the uncommon luxuries enter the room and making love to Julia shows he is rebelling against the Party.
Adam Weindling Gordon English 12 6 October 2008 Milo and Major In Joseph Heller’s novel Catch-22 he uses satire to lampoon the absurd and dangerous military life. Heller effectively mocks the corruption and the horrors of war by creating characters like Milo Minderbinder and Major Major. The way Heller goes about ridiculing the military organization can even be applied today. Milo Minderbinder is in charge of the mess hall, but is mainly known for being the ruler of the black market. Milo’s business that started out selling eggs eventually blossomed into a huge money making organization where “everyone has a share.” This all started when Milo was looking for an out to his air raid missions.
Eric Scholsser gives information about how today’s modern industrial food system has changed what most Americans eat in their daily lives. The national uniformity for food Act of 2005 was passed and this shows how companies work hard to keep consumers in the dark (Scholsser 396).New laws such as this prevent states from having food safety. Safety regulations like keeping lead out of children’s candy and warning pregnant women of dangerous ingredients would no longer be told and informed to consumers (Scholsser 396).This system operates by harming consumers, mistreating animals and pollute the land. Letting the public have awareness would be a good thing that could change the US food system. Michael Pollan article brings forth information
Imagine if when you got there, you were not accepted by all. You got teased, picked on, pointed out, and laughed at all because you couldn’t afford your own groceries but instead you had to pull out all of those food stamps. Would you really be okay with that? Would you just give up and keep getting the food stamps or would you try to better yourself? Would you try to make something of yourself?
