Introduction Nursing concept is a board spectrum in nursing. As we explore the use core concept of theories we found it provides a perspective from which to define nursing. Nursing theory provides the direction and knowledge for nurse to use in their daily practice. If it wasn’t for theory we would not be able to provide the quality of care and safety factors associated with care for our patients. The safety of our patients is our number one priority when giving medical care.
I note that their knowledge and experience from multiples years of nursing prepare them for position that they are now in. The staff nurse provided more direct involvement in her role on the team by educating her patients during care. The nurse educator, on the other hand, was involved with her team indirectly by educating the staff on patient care issues. The interviewees’ position on promoting quality care outcomes requires them both to be directly engaged in the plan of care for the patient’s on their respective units. Although national evidence based research effects nursing as a whole, the staff nurse believes that nursing research has greatly improved her area.
It is important to educate public about nursing profession and move away from the stereotypes that nurse’s job is to follow doctor’s orders. Patients need to know that nurses are patient’s advocates, care coordinators, critical thinkers, problem solvers etc. I believe that nurses and primary care providers play enormous role in patient care. New York Presbyterian Hospital focuses on the continuous quality improvement efforts. Recently management implemented share governance and primary nursing.
Some feel that higher educated nurses are vital to meeting the demands of our ever changing healthcare needs. “A well-educated, highly-skilled, and diverse nurse workforce is critical to meeting future healthcare needs.” (Department of Health and Human Services [DHHS], 2011). Scientific studies have been conducted to support this parallel. Research shows that healthcare institutions with higher percentages of baccalaureate-prepared nurses benefit with better patient outcomes in addition to significantly lower mortality rates (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2012). This research resulted in the healthcare industry taking great strides to increase the number of baccalaureate-prepared nurses.
Critical awareness is crucial to being a registered nurse or midwife. Hamer and Collinson (1999) suggest nurses should be more questioning, try to see more than one side of an argument; try to be objective rather than subjective; weigh the evidence; make judgements based on reason, evidence or logic; look at the meaning behind the facts; identify issues arising from the facts; and recognise when further evidence is needed. “A nurse is responsible to ensure that the standard of the nurse’s practice conforms with professional standards with the object of enhancing the safety of the individual, any significant other person and colleagues” (ANMC 2007 clause 2). This is echoed by the United Kingdom Nursing and Midwifery Council in their Code of Conduct which states: “You are personally accountable for your practice. This means you are answerable for your
Nursing has become a much demanded career and along with it many educational theory and practice concepts has emerged. More knowledgeable, skilled, and an art nurses are most sorted out. A well prepared nurse is necessary in this technological highly developed health field to cultivate a potentially mechanistic environment. To promote this, Doh/ENB,2001a “Stresses that the environments should provide an arena in which students can experience good quality care and treatment of patients and clients” As such, environment in practical area for learning, places an important role in developing a high quality nurses. The objective of this paper is therefore to critically analyse the significant of practice arena in facilitating learning and how I as a registered nurse practitioner can induce learning in the practice area for a better learning environment.
Professional short and long- term goals My professional short-term goal is to become a critical care nurse. I want to increase my critical thinking skills from a novice to an expert. A critical care nurse is a nurse who can remain calm in a complex emergency situation. A critical care nurse is an expert in using special equipment while providing effective patient care. Always at the ready to provide care in a crisis patient, provide family education and collaborate multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care are also vital for a critical care nurses (Cottrel, 2010).
Nurse Educator: the nurse educators have a passion for teaching. They use their clinical expertise to prepare new nurses. They are also responsible for advancing the development of practicing clinicians. The Nurse Educators also possess a solid clinical background and strong communication skills apart from having high cultural competence. One thing that the Nursing educators need is to be flexible enough so as to adapt curriculum and teaching methods according to innovations in nursing science and other
The roles of nurses in each phase of the nursing process will be discussed. Skills and qualities of nurses in delivering quality care, evidence-based practice, multi-disciplinary team approach, and effective communication will also be considered in relation to nursing process. ASSESSMENT Assessment is the first step of the nursing process. It is defined by Carpenito-Moyet (2007) as an organised technique to collect information about a patient from different sources. In this phase, evidence of the problem and risks for problems are being examined.

Biesemeyer, MSN, RN July 16, 2012 IOM: The Future of Nursing Report With the diverse needs of a growing population, the United States yearns for an improved health care system, improved health outcomes, and an accessible but quality health care system. I believe nursing will be the profession that will have perhaps have the biggest role, as they deliver compassionate care to their patients, which will carry across ones lifespan. The nursing profession is one of the fastest developing fields in the health care industry, not only here in the United States; but also in the world. According to Mcneal (2012), “Clearly the focus of healthcare needs to change from illness care to prevention.” The dynamic health care industry has without a doubt changed over the last couple decades and as a result the necessity for changes in nursing practice has become increasingly important. The Institute of Medicine: The Future of Nursing Report discusses so many positive key messages to improve nursing care; but three seem to have the greatest impact in my mind, in regards to the future of nursing, the transformation of the: nursing practice, nursing education and nurse’s role.
