The fictional book, “The Demonata – the Demon Thief”, written by Darren Shan, deals with the 12-year-old boy Cornelius Fleck, who likes to be called Kernel. Kernel is able to connect the patches of light he is seeing in the air to create a window into the Demonata universe. But one day, a demon constructs a window of his own and comes into Kernel’s universe. The demon, known as Cadaver, kidnapped his little brother, Art, and ran. Kernel is torn between stating on Earth never to see his brother again or pursuing the demon and reunite with his brother. Not to soon he unites with a demon hunting group also searching for Cadaver. Six events in the story are: 1.) Kernel constructs a window into the Demonata universe. 2.) Kernel’s brother art gets kidnapped by Cadaver 3.) Kernel goes after the demon. 4.) Beranabus, leader of The Disciples, finds that Kernel can open windows faster than he can. 5.) Kernel gets his first fair share of killing demons when he gets trapped on a moon like world filled with demons. 6.) Kernel goes back for Beranabus and Raz when he steps through a window without them and they have to fight countless demons. The story has multiple settings including Paskinstan, Lord Loss’s universe, and the Demonata universe. The author does not let the reader know when the story takes place. The setting makes the story much more exciting in a way that enriches the story and makes the story have more meaning to it. The setting also affects the main character because Kernel gets a sting of fear when he is in the Demonata universe because it is so frightening. Kernel is an average-sized teenager with black hair and skin. Kernel has never been the social type and never had any friends. Kernel was always a coward and a loner but after his experiences he becomes a courageous and curious hero. Kernel never liked to leave things behind especially not people and
