AP European History DBQ 2008 Form B On November 24, 1793, the National Convention replaced the Gregorian calendar with a new revolutionary calendar. In response to the new calendar, in the period 1789 to 1806, several different reactions evolved. Based on the documents provided, when looked at upon an intellectual basis, the calendar seemed perfect; where some found the new calendar to work well, others proclaimed it inconvenience; and through overthrowing Christianity in the calendar and everyday life, problems began to arise. The documents can be divided into three main groups. The first group of documents shows the intellectual thought behind the creation of the revolutionary calendar and the reasons for its adoption.
The Roosevelt Revolution In the 1920's, Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration could be described using various adjectives, but a common one would be revolutionary. Being put in the presidency during the Great Depression, Roosevelt had many issues to deal with. His main plan, and his most famous concept, was the New Deal. The New Deal consisted of many components and also had many critics. The New Deal was a complex strategy to help the American economy get back on its feet.
Resulting and increasing exponentially as a result of the War of 1812 (and other successful battles), the people took pride in their new found independence and boasted their feelings. They did this by believing in the Manifest Destiny ideology in which as the only Republic of their kind, it was their duty to propagate American beliefs globally (as well as continentally). The fundamental components comprising the foreign policy established by Jackson meshed with the sense of power that was blanketing the nation. People began to believe in the ideals of Manifest Destiny and the notion claimed by John Quincy Adams, “that the United States and North America were identical.” This imperialistic notion, as well as the fear of European encroachment amidst the Western Hemisphere, fueled the expansion towards Latin America. At first, it wasn’t international to hinder the freedoms of rising nations, nor to exercise surveillance over foreign power relations.
ZINN CHAPTER 4 1. What is the thesis of this chapter? Around 1776, certain important people in the English colonies made a discovery that would prove enormously useful for the next two hundred years. They found that by creating a nation, a symbol, a legal unity called the United States, they could take over land, profits, and political power from favorites of the British Empire. In the process, they could hold back a number of potential rebellions and create a consensus of popular support for the rule of a new, privileged leadership. When we look at the American Revolution this way, it was a work of genius, and the Founding Fathers deserve the awed tribute they have received over the centuries.

He did a very good job on his presidency and he had many important achievements. I would definitely have voted for Jefferson because he was brilliant and he understood the needs of the people. As mentioned above, he helped to write the Declaration of Independence and the constitutional law. Lastly, he argued fundamentally that a federal government that had too much authority over its people would ultimately undergo a revolution. Canada emerged from its colonial past with a unique political art, music, and literature. Ironically, at a time when Canadians have the most confidence to make a virtue of their diversity, their cultural environment is rapidly becoming a piece of the American "entertainment" market. The order in council through which the Massey Commission was formed stated "it is in the national interest to give encouragement to institutions which express national feeling, promote common understanding and add to the variety and richness of Canadian
The spectacular continental expansion Westward and the advent of new technologies during the industrial revolution were rapidly allowing for new concepts and new propositions. The widespread recognition of Social Darwinism provided Americans with a sense of moral superiority – an obligation to assist backward cultures and seemingly ‘remedial’ civilisations all over the world. The Monroe Doctrine remained a bold international statement of American authority, and the new ‘Manifest Destiny’ represented action and divine guidance. America was brimming with optimism, frustration, chivalry, hope and action. Despite McKinley’s attempts at diplomacy, he was feeble opposition to the emotional magnitude of what was emerging in America.
