The Not-so-distance Future
There is a way to bridge the gap between humans and vocaloids to make vocaloids more practical. Robotic technicians in Japan are working as hard as ever to bring a dream of a human like android into the reality. If vocaloids became androids, they would naturally have their own power source and would not be threaten by a power outage as they are now. To exemplify, it’s the fact that at the Annual Trade Show in Japan, the Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) successfully displayed their HRP-4C humanoid robot singing using Vocaloid software.
Moreover, when we are looking at the future of music synthesis, it is possible that human may not need to play a role in music creation, unless they want to.
Also, when the Vocaloid technology is improved to a point where common users will be able to create their own voice fonts the software, it is reasonable to assume that some start reviving famous voices that have been lost such as Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson.
Indeed this is a new form of music that is ever advancing. Future generation may very well perceive music in an all but completely different manner than the people of today. This is surely the case because young people are already interested in this style of music, it is not difficult to predict that in the near future Vocaloid and other computer generated sources of music will be seen in a positive light by the majority of people.
