Having a college degree makes living the American Dream a lot easier, and it helps you grow as an adult and teaches you leadership roles. Chapter 1 also explains that college is a place for young adults to enjoy life, meet new people, try new things. The reasons most young children are so ready to leave for college. Its going to help you know what you want in life most of all. College
The first reason is because a lot of people want a job that will pay very good money. By going to college, you will have the hands-on learning education you need to start your chosen career. This is a huge reason why a lot of careers require you to have at least a two or four year degree. Another reason why college matters is because it helps students boost their confidence level out in the real world. There are countless things that people have to do every single day in life so going college will help give you a better idea of what the definition of life really is.
I am very interested in starting a specific service project my junior year for CAS hours and this would be a great help to me with that. I think that I would be a valuable attendee to CASL because I am a freshman. Anything I learn can be used for all the rest of my four years of high school. I would also be a valuable attendee to the CASL conference because I would easily be able to make up the work that I miss on that Monday from school. I am also one of the older ones out of all my classmates so I would like to go to CASL so that I can learn to be a better leader to those who might look up to me.
The conventions of college writing are very complex and if professors are more helpful and patient with first year students as they learn academic discourse, students will be better prepared for all future academic endeavors and they will have a better opportunity to strengthen and develop their voice. David Bartholomae, author of Inventing the University, is a professor who writes about the struggles that students face with transitioning into college level writing and learning to write with authority in academic discourse, all while maintaining a unique voice. I agree with Bartholomae’s views on the subject and his arguments are very valid because he speaks from the status and
CWPA, NCTE, and NWP claim in “Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing,” that “Habits of mind refers to ways of approaching learning that are both intellectual and practical and that will support students’ success in a variety of fields and disciplines” (122). At the Recreation Center, responsibility and persistence are habits of the mind that most students apply. Persistence, which the authors describes, is the “ability to sustain interest in and attention to short and long-term projects,” that pushes these students to come back throughout their education, regardless of how high their workload has piled up (122). When approaching college, students find it much more difficult to schedule exercising while balancing out their college life. There are exams to study for, deadlines to meet, and expectations to live up to.
Cameron Dear Professor Varnum, I have decided upon option “A” for my paper, as I was interested in the tactics that David Foster Wallace utilized in his commencement speech. In addition, I also found his views on the true value of a college education to be very interesting and was excited to share my views as well. Please give me your feedback at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Cameron Most college educations are what one makes of them and a college education is about more than simply earning a degree and preparing oneself for their future. A college education is about giving oneself the ability to have control over their life.
Back to School as an Adult Charity M. Gill Bryant and Stratton College ENGL101: Applied Writing #2 Process Analysis Mrs. Carolyn Spinner October 2, 2011 The thought process that anyone goes through in deciding to go back to college after the high school or college age requires a look back in time, a steady gaze towards the future and a serious reality check. There are a lot of good reasons to increase your education, such as having a more fulfilling career, being able to provide for loved ones and having the respect of others who have earned a college degree. It sounds a little frightening to the average adult who has children, job and life experiences outside of the school environment to embark on a journey to education especially
Some students are successful at connecting their in-campus and off-campus activities while other are not. Light asserts that he found out that “those students who make connections between what goes on inside and outside the classroom report a more satisfying college experience” (p. 14). In order to prove this, Light interviewed a few students whose life-decisions had changed because of the meta-curricular activities that they took up during their vacations. Light concluded that this study would be helpful for admission officers who should realize that they should admit their students and then get in their way (in a constructive sense) to help them make these
I would like to show my family that education is very important, because it doesn't only affect you but everyone that is surrounded by you. I would like to set an example for my little sister, and younger cousins, that anything is possible, and that your education sets a path for your future that if you have a bright future you can have a beautiful life. I would also like God to be proud of me as well. Bishop Noll Institute offers a challenging academic environment, I clearly see it in the upperclassmen’s attitudes and the standards that they set for me as a freshman this year. The more I know the better opportunities will come my way in the future.
In this journey of my college life i would have to say that it has been the biggest milestone for me. I have been able to see how college education is a very valuable thing and everyone should be able to get one so that we can all be enlightened and help make our society a better place. College is a place where people come together in an environment that helps nurture their educational and professional curiosities. I have been able to have different encounters with all kinds of different people in many different settings and this has given me a big boost of confidence. College education has a profound effect in my life , it has helped me chose my career more wisely and the college experience has made me become more confident and make better and well judged decisions.
