They include having many failures, not having any close friends, and the loss of his younger brother Allie. Since his many failures at school, Holden has been in a downward spiral that will eventually lead to his mental break down. Not being able to talk to any close friends makes Holden’s depression much worse. Holden thinks that he should be dead instead of his brother Allie which does not help with his depression. If Holden’s parents had let him go to a school near his apartment he might have been able to establish a few long term relationships.
Now that Allie is dead and that D.B. moved away, Holden feels that he doesn’t have anyone. It is just he and his little sister Phoebe. Holden also misses his family, and rarely gets to see them because he goes to a boarding school. Holden feels depressed from the prior events in his family, and no longer has the desire to learn or strive to be successful.
Teen Suicide Does anyone actually know what a teenager goes through in life? What they are really thinking about? It seems that teens like to keep a lot to themselves but that only makes a situation worse. Teens who attempt or commit suicide can be an outcome of depression, bullying, and even guilt. Just like Conrad’s parents in Ordinary People by Judith Guest, many are unaware of the dangers and thoughts faced by teens that could lead to suicide.
As shown, Holden is depressed in many ways: he fails in life, he is lonesome, and he still is affected by his brother's death. Holden is a failure because he cannot pass any classes in school, except English, and he cannot do anything right. He is lonely because he simply hates mostly everyone and, therefore, does not have any friends. Holden is depressed by his brother's death because that was his best friend. Holden's depression started with the loss of his best friend/brother and continued on with failure and loneliness throughout the rest of his
However, with the new act and its simplicity people are no longer trying to fix their marriages and are just getting divorced which leads to the breakdowns of many family units. For example, the divorce rate increased by 5% between 2009 and 2010. This can have terrible effects upon the family in particular any children the couple may share because a parents’ divorce can be an upsetting time and some children find it very difficult to handle. It can also affect the family because not all divorces are civil and it can leave the couple having bad relations and in custody battles the children can be deeply affected because in some cases only one parent has custody and they don’t allow the children to see the other parent therefore depriving them of a treasured bond within their life. The child benefit act also affects the institution of family.
With having multiple lovers outside her marriage, Leonce leaves Edna, which only adds to the solitude she initially wanted. Edna's disaccociation by her friends and family is brought on by her amount of expression and the rate at which she gains the knowledge of her independence. Due to her near complete severence she feels both alone and unfulfilled. This feeling fuels her to attempt suicide, which she is successful when she drwons herself. This is a interpretation of the feelings that society had during those times about sexual expression and adultery and also suide.
Since the media stresses that everyone should be thin people think that they also need to be like that (Kowalski 1). It can cause people to stop eating and make them get an eating disorder (1). It also lowers their self-esteem. Also if you do not interact with other people it can make you feel depressed or lonely. This was Jennie’s case she did not have any friends because they were all jealous of her (Cooney 104).
Johnny also has frequent thoughts of suicide which could be due to depression, feeling unloved by his parents, socially undesirable, seeing himself as “out of place” even amongst friends, and that he internalizes that actions of others. Throughout the film he never really comes to terms with his role in life. He runs to Dallas when he needs to make a decision, probably as he feels uncomfortable making a decision that will affect others as well as himself. One sign of strength in his character is that he decides to turn himself in so the Ponyboy could go back home to his family and friends. When he is in hospital with life-threatening burns and talking to Ponyboy the first time he says he regretted a lot of his past; that he wished he had never helped rescue the children, and that he didn’t want to die even though he didn’t know what to do with his
He dislikes ackly for the simple reason that he has bad hygiene and it annoys Holden. This small annoyance is something that most people would be able to get over but Holden has a habit of dwelling on these minor problems he has with everybody and not being able to get over them. With Stadlater just the fact that he took Jane out on a date and Holden has a secret crush on her, even though he hasn't seen her in years and there is no way for Stadlater to know that. Holden insists on disliking him for that small
It shows us how important is each human’s life is. There are many people on this world who are hurting themselves by cutting themselves or by committing suicides. They think that their lives are miserable and don’t believe in themselves because they are not strong enough. “There were not only adults who participated in the works and demonstrations, but also children” (Fefles). By watching this documentary 4 Little Girls or by reading passages like chapter 15 people might start to realize that if a person really wants something he could achieve it by fighting for it.
