She is an advocate of making sure that patients and carers are involved in their own care and that their views about improvements across the hospital are listened to and acted on. She also believes that patient experience information should be a core principle of their care and not regarded as an “add on”. The windshield survey prompted me to view what a client is from a different angle. As a floor nurse my comfort zone is one of working with one person, or sometimes a small family unit one at a time. My usual interventions and goals are focused on success for this person, in the way the individual defines success for themselves. To begin my project I had to first determine what is meant by community, community health and having your client as the whole community. During which I observed an Occupational Therapist that came regularly to see the residents at the care home. The therapist worked closely with the residents to enable them to lead full & satisfying lives as independent as possibly. I was impressed by the incredible amount of knowledge and skills that were required for occupational therapy. This gave me a great insight into the caring profession and has increased my motivation to work within it. In this experience, it enabled me to observe different health practitioners that were involved with the resident’s care.
Most private practitioners are clinical social workers who provide psychotherapy, usually paid for through health insurance or by the client themselves. Private practitioners must have at least a master's degree and a period of supervised work experience. A network of contacts for referrals also is essential. Social workers should be emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their problems.
