Chapter 5 SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusion and recommendations about the study.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS As a summary, the result of the study entitled “Journeying with Persons with disability: The Private Duty Nurse experiences” consist of the following:
The Piece of Crutch: A Private Duty Nurse Helping Hand 1. Most of the private duty nurses adhere to safe and quality nursing care practices in caring for a person with disability which included their knowledge and competence in assessment, formulation of nursing diagnosis, and creating an individualized nursing care plan, nursing interventions and proper evaluation of the rendered goal of care to the person with disability. 2. Most of the private duty nurses recognize health education as ongoing and considered it as a crux in their practice, in caring for a person with disability. Majority of the participants verbalized that their goal is to help the person with disability and its significant others learn to manage the child’s impairment as independently as possible. Likewise, to achieve self-reliance for the person with disability. 3. Most of the participants respect the right of persons with disability regardless of their impairment. The participants related that most of them, respects the autonomy of the person with disability by asking them of their certain preferences. Likewise, by accepting the responsibility and accountability for their own decisions and actions in giving care to a person with disability. 4. 84
Most of the private duty nurses showed their personal and professional growth in caring for a person with disability by identifying their own learning needs in providing care by means of verbalizing their strengths, limitation and scope of duty to the person with disability and it’s significant others.
