Kevin Cromer SP3450T February 27, 2014 Unit 9 Assignment 3: The Bystander Intervention If I were walking in a busy city park and started having chest pains, I would collapse or lay down on the trail. By laying on the trail, people will obviously see me and that would get the attention of more than one person. If someone saw someone laying in the bushes demonstrating they are in danger, some people might think they are trying to deceive them and they may think that that person is actually trying to lure them into the bushes to attack them. By staying in the open that will give people more confidence to approach me and yell out for others to assist. I would show altruism by being in the obvious open. I know if I saw someone in the bushes or down by a creek I would be kind of hesitant to help them. That is similar to helping someone whom is stuck on the side of the road and it is dark. I don’t know if anyone is in the back of their car or hiding in the median awaiting to attack me. The decision-making process would be greatly improved by being in the open. People are more willing to help if they know that others are around and will help as well. People are aware that there are people who do work out and try to better themselves on a track. Heart problems and ankle twist are common on a track. I cannot just picture people stepping over someone and continuing to work out while there is someone laying on a track or course in dire need of
