I look at the clock; it says 8:05 am, which means I’m late. I run down stairs, my mom stops me and says, “Sweetie I made you breakfast.” I told her “I’m late! I’ll just grab my pop tart and eat it on the bus, I love you bye.” I arrive at school; during the start of my second class my stomach starts to growl. I tell my friend, “I am so hungry!” My stomach began to growl louder, so I asked my friend if she had some candy. She says, “No I don’t have anything with me today but you need to eat more than pop tarts.” I just smiled and told her, “Next time I’ll eat something besides a pop tart.” I had to wait two hours until lunch time, by this time I am starving, instead of standing in line for a cafeteria meal, I went to the vending machine and got a bag of chips and a soda. After school I was hungry again, my friend and I had to finish our project for science class so we went to our local pizza parlor. We ordered an extra large pizza, by the time we finish the project I had ate half of the pizza. When I got home my mom told me,” Dinner would be ready in about 15 minutes. “I told her I don’t think I could eat another bite, I just had a few slices of pizza before I came home.” Does this sound like a typical day for you? If so, you should slow down and start cooking instead of eating fast food. There are many benefits to taking the time to prepare a meal instead of relying on fast food and quick snacks. Cooking a meal is healthier when compared to eating fast food and will keep your body full much longer. Besides the health benefits of preparing meals instead of being lazy and eating fast food all of the time, meals can bring families together which is needed in today’s society. Not many people are taking time out to cook or learn to cook. My mother and grandmother cooked all of the time; it’s really easy to “whip up a meal” as my grandmother would say. While
