THE BAMBOO FLUTE At the wake of dawn as the world awakens to the rising sun. Every particle on our planet gets engulfed by the sunlight. Birds simultaneously tweet out to each other in a chorus, singing a soothing, melodic tune. Butterflies are left undisturbed fluttering their wings, perching on flowering shrubs. The vibrant shades of the green grass glisten under the morning shine. The meadow is coated with a generous layer of sparkling dew, reflecting off of the sunlight like a shower of diamonds. As I lift my Flute and begin to play, I feel as if my soul is becoming enlightened by the morning sun, as if I was a part of a beautiful morning and all the playful events happening around. The notes of the flute take over my senses and depart me to a serene and tranquil world. The bamboo flute also called baasuri/bansuri back in my motherland, is not just a melodious musical instrument to me. It helps me connect to my inner spiritual self. Music has no origin or a type, it has been with the mankind since its very conception. Music is a language in itself. It is not limited to the countless genres or a handful of instruments. Every element in the nature has it’s own sound. The blowing winds, the chirping of birds, waves clashing on a peaceful beach , the rain, leaves rustling in the wind and a million other comforting harmonies. The bamboo flute is also a part of the sound of the nature and it is made from the bamboo plant. It is a relatively high pitched woodwind instrument which is very close to my heart.
