He figures this out when visiting his old home in California. He was furious. This was untruthful of his dad, and that's one thing that Chris hates most. Because of this incident he stopped talking to either of his parents and was withdrawn for the first time in his life. “Chris's smoldering anger, it turns out was fueled by a discovery he'd made two summers earlier, during his cross-country wanderings... Chris pieced together the facts of his father's previous marriage and subsequent divorce-facts to which he hadn't been privy.” (p. 121) This is not good mainly for Chris and his dad's relationship and also his mom and him.

Also, you have to factor in the time period of this trial, which was in the 1920’s to the 1930’s. During, such an old fashion time period there was the great depression and lots of racism and discrimination. Therefore one could argue that he is not guilty because the lack of evidence and the behavior and social structure of the city Maycomb, Alabama. I for one do not think Tom Robinson is guilty. She is tired of her people not being willing to stand up for themselves when their white counterparts take them for granted. Ann’s label of coward on her people for not standing up for themselves is justified because of the numerous of crimes being committed towards the African Americans during this time that nobody was doing anything about. Ann’s first real encounter with the savage racist crimes was in high school when she heard about the lynching of Emmitt Till, a fourteen year old boy found in the river. His death was passed off as a lack of respect, "The boy was from Chicago. Negroes up North have no respect for people.
He is a black man, and black men were discriminated against during the early 1900s. “I ain’t wanted in the bunk house… I can’t play because I’m black. They say I stink” (pg. 68) He is also physically disabled
Steinbeck introduces Crooks as a black man. We begin to learn about Crooks through gossip with Candy calling him derogatory terms like 'nigger' and 'stable buck'. The way he is openly referred to as 'nigger' exemplifies the casual racism directed towards him by the others- they don't insult him deliberately, but the use of the term shows he is constantly degraded both verbally and physically. This suggests to us that he is a social outcast. Readers at the time would have related to the situation as racism was still a common habit in the 1930s.
Also because of the discrimination they lived in awful conditions with dusty floors no glass windows and generally underprivileged. Amazing Grace Question 1 Levi Bross Core III In the book, “Amazing Grace”, the author conducts interviews with a select few of the poorest people in New York City, who were living in the worst ghettos in the United States. These poor people mostly reside in the areas of South Bronx and Mott Haven, in which Kozol states, “most people would not even kennel their dogs in.” (pg. 51) This statement is eye opening and starling, in which it portrays how small and unfit these homes seem to be for people living in South Bronx and Mott haven. This statement also shows how inhuman the living quarters were, degrading a mere human to the level of a dog. I am sure that these people who have been born into a lifestyle of poverty or who have suffered from unfortunate events, do not make the decision to live in the worst ghettos of New York City.
