History Essay Word Count: 1,184 Discuss the historical, cultural, and musical aspects of one of Bach’s Passions. Include musical examples when necessary, and place the works within the larger context of German sacred music of the mid–late Baroque era. Johann Sebastian Bach’s Passions, based on the gospels of John and Matthew, mark the pinnacle of his vocal works. I will be focussing on the St. Matthew Passion, a work that “left behind all that had been customary or even conceivable in sacred music at the time.” I will be discussing the historical and cultural impacts this Passion had and also examine its musical aspects within the context of the era of the Baroque that Bach was active in, where he stood out as a master of his art. To understand how this Passion fits into the history and culture that it was conceived in, one must first understand what the Passion is, in this context.
He named these to pieces the Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue. They were appropriately named for the style that they were written. These two songs are considered to be some of Ellington's most ambitious efforts and when he first wrote them they were beyond the capabilities of his band. It took until 1957 for the full potential of the songs to be realized. This was one of Ellington's many pieces written with very little room for improvisation and it was very demanding, structurally and harmonically.
The features about Mozart’s music is his passionate about his music and it brings ease, grace, spontaneity and at the same time creates balance, restraint and has perfect proportions. Mozart was especially fond of the woodwinds, in particularly the clarinet and the no one could match his tone colors. His last masterpiece Concerto for Clarinet, K. 622, is the greatest composition for this instrument (Kamien,
In that regard (and in relation to Greenwood) we can begin to understand his creative brilliance by looking at his story. In modern music it is startlingly rare to find that a musician has been classically trained in their instrument of choice let alone trained in multiple instruments. Of course this statement is a bit leading as Greenwood himself is classically trained in multiple instruments. His classical training allows him to compose in the manner he has while his experience playing in an alternative rock band has given him a unique view of the way he writes music. The score for There Will Be Blood was recorded in it’s entirety at Abbey Road Studios in London, the same studio that The Beatles recorded their album “Abbey Road.” Greenwood wrote and recorded the score by himself.
English 4 7 October 2013 Aida said “Of all the medieval epics, it reflects Christian ethics and values most strongly even though it never explicitly mentions anything Christian” (Beowulf as Didactic???? Help!!!?). Although the Christian values ethics and beliefs are never mentioned in the poem of Beowulf specifically, they are still very strong. This can be shown in many ways to show the underlying integration of Christian and pagan beliefs and morals. There are three major parts of the poem that show the integration; the death for the sins of others, the honor of his uncle’s agreement, and how he has 12 followers at the end these show the integration of Christian and pagan beliefs with the intent that the listeners pick up on them.

Published in September, 1798, by Eder in Vienna, the set is dedicated to Countess Anna Margarete von Browne, whose husband, Count Johann von Browne (1767-1827), was one of Beethoven's chief early patrons. The First movement starts out with an upbeat but without a crescendo, imitating the Mannheim Rocket. One of the most important part of this pieces is the monothematic idea that is used. The 4 notes in the beginning (D, C,B, A) is widely used all over the piece, such as the end of bar 10. Look at the first three bars it contains: 1) Octaves (meaning there are no harmonies, just the same notes played at the same time: first there are three D:s, then three C#s, etc.)
The pieces that I chose to analyze were Beethoven’s 5th symphony movement 1, and Love the Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna. These pieces are very different and at first glance, I was hard pressed to find anything that I could use to compare them, but many elements that I could contrast. Beethoven’s 5th symphony was written over a four year period beginning in 1804 and culminating in 1808. Beethoven was a German composer and pianist and he is one of the most famous composers of all time. He was a transitional musician between the classical and the romantic periods and therefore his music was a distinct split from the past.
Glassworks is a compilation album that contains six musical pieces. I will be covering this composition as if it were one continuous track. While I enjoy his piano work, this was my least favorite composer and musical selection. I enjoyed the first 7 minutes of this album and began to dislike it heavily around the 7:02 mark. The rhythm and tempo become over the top and in my opinion, it goes from amazing piano work to what seems to just be noise.
Gregorian chant is a vocal music, which means that it is sung a capella without accompaniment of instruments by a choir of men and boys, or by religious men and women in their churches. Among the main characteristics of a chant is that it is in monophonic form which indicates that it is sung in unison (only one note simultaneously), thus all the singers sing the same melody. The range of melody is limited and is sung with free rhythm (Unmeasured rhythm). This music is based on modes, the medieval modal system developed gradually, and not all stages of the process can be clearly traced. In its complete form, achieved by the eleventh century, the system include eight modes, differentiated according to the position of the whole tones and semitones within a diatonic octave.
