Is the Nau’s business approach ethical and responsible? First of all, ethical means doing thing refers to a right principles, values and beliefs. Responsible can be understood by two views, the classical view and the socioeconomic view. The classical view management is only response to maximize profits or financial return by operating the business in the best interests of the stockholders. While the socioeconomic view management is response to goes beyond making profits to include protecting and improving society’s well-being and welfare because corporations are not independent entities responsible only to stockholders. The approach of Nau doing business can be divided into three parts, design, sale and finical, to analysis whether it is ethical and responsible or not. In the design area, Nau developed fabrics that are more sustainable. Those fabrics make the products’ usable life becoming longer and more green, since the fabrics are more sustainable. This design approach is responsible to the environment. In order to ensure that all products are obey the Nau’s value, a code of conduct, all the process are supervised by an independent, nonprofit auditing and research firm. This code and firm can make sure that the design process is following the Nau’s value and principle. The code also share the value of Nau to their employees and any related partners. This behave is a standard ethical example. In the sales area, Nau sales products by “Web-front”. It means customers can purchase products from the Web. By this approach, the online stores can be much smaller standard store. Nau donates 5% income to the charitable organizations for settling humanitarian and important environmental problems.
