They just keep writing without being aware to composition and organization of their topic. This paper is aimed to discuss the advantages of mind mapping as prewriting activity to increase students’ writing skill. The paper firstly reviews to related literature related to writing skill theory and the description of prewriting activity and mind mapping technique. As the findings, there are many advantages of mind mapping as prewriting activity. They are to see the relationship between ideas, to encourage students to group certain ideas as together as they proceed and to improve students’ memory. It is essential that mind map is one of useful tool as prewriting activity which can help students improve their writing skill. Keywords: mind mapping, prewriting activity, writing skill I. Introduction Language is a media for communication which is used by people to interact each other either through oral or literal. That is why, to make an effective communication it is needed an understanding and connection between the language itself and people who use it.
