What is causing the pollutions that are having a major effect on the health of humans and the environment? I will show what we can do to control these pollutions. How are these pollutants affecting us as humans and what is it doing to our environment? There are around ten major pollutants that are creating serious issues. Suspended particulate matter (PM) has a few sources. Some of these are smoke, soot, metals and carbon from combustion; salts, metal, and dirt from wind erosion there is also atmospheric reactions of gases. This particular pollution reduces lung function and affects respiration and cardiovascular disease. The second is volatile organic compounds (VOC) one of the sources, being evaporation of solvents and gasoline. There is a mixture of compounds that some that are carcinogenic. Carbon monoxide (CO) is caused by incomplete combustion of fuels. Human health is affected, because it irritates cardiovascular disease. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) one source of this is something that is done all over the world, which is to burn wood. A couple effects this has are that it irritates the lungs and aggravates respiratory disease. Next is sulfur dioxide ( SO2 ) this is also caused by combustion, but this is with sulfur-containing fuel, and the biggest on is coal. The major effect that I see is that it a poisonous gas that is impairs breathing. Lead is a know source of pollution dealt with on a daily basis. Some of the sources are lead smelters and combustion of leaded fuels and solid wastes. High lead exposure can cause brain damage in children and this is why doctors do a lead test on our children when they are small. They also ask us if our house has lead based paint in it
