Moreover, “The advent of the steam locomotive and railroad also saw the start of major pollution caused by big business, which is all too often seen today. Polluted rivers and smoke-filled air began to dominate cities, which in turn created poor living and working conditions that gave rise to socialism. The most direct pollution problem created by the locomotive was the carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. It gave way to poor air quality and poor living conditions. Additionally, the steam locomotive supported businesses and industries where pollution was an accepted and normal thing.
Atmospheric Pollution Environmental Science SCI 275 University of Phoenix July 29, 2011 BY Reigard U. Brown Sr. The paper that I am writing will be about one of the problems we have in the world is Atmospheric pollution. Atmospheric pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter that cause harm or discomfort to humans and living organisms in our atmosphere. There are many different ways that air pollution can be omitted into the air we breathe like pollution that comes from house cleaning products, older model cars, energy plants, and forests fire.
It also have some very harmful effects on humans and nature. It creates large amount of pollution, destroys the nature and also increases the diseases in human societies. As in documentary about “The Ethics of Fracking” by Marleen troy PhD (Environmental Engineer), Bernard Prausak and Rabbi Mordechai Liebling.
Combustion of organic compounds can result in detrimental impacts on the environment such as the generation of acids and production of carbon monoxide, particulates and soot. When organic compounds that contain sulphur, nitrogen are combusted, the reaction may produce gases such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide. When these compounds react with water molecules, it will produce acids which fall as acid rain.Acids dissolve calcium carbonate, meaning that monuments made from marble and limestones are particularly vulnerable. In environmental terms, acid rain flows into water bodies. Acid rain releases aluminium from the soils into the water, an element which is highly toxic to many species of aquatic organisms.
1b)Coal is a fossil fuel, which means when it is burnt it releases unwanted pollutants which have a negative and harmful impact on our environment. These pollutants are: Carbon Dioxide- This gas is considered to be the most harmful pollutant as it contributes to global warming. Coal is attributed to approximately 20% of the total pollution globally per year of all the fossil fuels. Sulfur emissions- when sulfur mixes with oxygen a harmful substance is formed. SO2, sulfur dioxide effects our trees and water systems and is the prominent cause of acid rain.
Fuel combustion and automobile transportation are two large factors of air pollution. Both factors release a production of heat and chemicals into the atmosphere causing for an excessive amount of wasted heat. Furthermore, the problem of extra heat leads to the production of a number of harmful health issues and environmental scrutiny. Global warming, global community has long been a vocal advocate and critic of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Hundreds of disease oriented and professional health provider organizations have provided pollution, smog, and ozone layer damaging are all results of air pollution.
2013).Pharmaceutical companies sometimes place active chemicals and waste into groundwater sources, in which almost all of the groundwater may be untreated which most likely cause contamination. (Herber, 2002). Abstract: Increase in the emissions of carbon dioxide by burning fossil fuels is the largest cause of environmental down grading resulting not only in global warming but also causing acid rain which alters the pH balance of ground water. Water is a universal solvent; however, its dissolving properties are very sensitive to changes in temperature and pH. Global economic growth has, unfortunately,
Coal, natural gas, and oil are burned for energy in many ways such as cars and power plants. Forest burning for deforestation also causes C02 emissions. C02 emissions are harmful to the planet and cause the planet to heat up. Global warming causes worse weather conditions in the world amongst other issues. With so many issues that can arise with a hotter Earth, I believe this to be a major issue that needs to be addressed.
You have animal and plant’s respiration and volcanic eruptions. Then you have thing’s that will take the carbon out like bacteria which I believe is bad because then everything would start to die. Then you have human’s that come and impacts the carbon by burning the fossil fuels. Which have affected the carbon cycle by using the fossil fuels which human’s don’t know by burning the fossil fuels it’s puts the carbon in the air? Which could be harmful to humans and animal when we breath we also breathing in carbon.
Basically, the cycle is disrupted in favor of too much carbon in the air, and not enough things taking it out. The most popular way it is known to disrupt the carbon cycle, is by using fossil fuels. Fossil fuel is carbon that is buried in the ground, and when they are burned, people therefore put excessive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. Carbon then is cycled back into the ground where it is absorbed and possibly sinks to the bottom of the ocean. The ocean can dissolve the carbon dioxide, but only to a certain extent because the water then becomes saturated, endangering ocean
