Kochen 1 Outline Thesis: Television increases violence in children and may cause them to reenact things that they have seen while watching television. Main Ideas: I. The amount of television people watch causes them to see a lot of violence. II. Children may reenact or learn from what they have seen on television and use this to cause violence. III. The amount of violent television being aired is rapidly increasing, even in child programming. Main Idea I. The amount of television people watch causes them to see a lot of violence. A. Television is on for about 7 hours and 40 minutes in an average household everyday and about 40 hours per week.(4,5) B. 40-60% of Americans watch T.V. during dinner.(4,5) C. 25% of Americans fall asleep with the television on.(5,6) D. “At the rate Americans watch T.V. a child who grows up to be older than 75 will have spent about 9 years of his life in front of the T.V.”(8) Main Idea II.
