In this essay I will be talking about how children are affected by television. Although many parents these days do not want their children to watch television, there are a lot of educational shows available today. Many parents may not want their children to watch modern television, and I would have to tell those parents that there are some shows out there these days that are very educational and they are aimed towards the young. Watching the educational cartoons can be very helpful for a child’s mind. There can be positive results emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
Imagine a kid solving a puzzle -which will help to develop his brain- instead of watching TV; also this kind of activities will keep him safe from violence. Ratings: I have seen a TV channel specifying violence ratings, I cannot recall the channel but every time I see it has violence on it I change the channel. We shouldn’t have to watch a program to see if it is violent. Sometime we start watching a program just to see if it appropriate or not to watch and then we realized that even it has violence we watched the entire TV show I think ratings will work just
time anymore Some kids find comfort in TV of talking to there parents and think that’s what to do to solve my problem Yes, but The biggest problem is not the fact that kids watch more TV now; the fact that parents do not regulate what there kids watch. Also it should be up to the kids to realize that that’s not real and that’s not what I need to do to solve my problem. Violence on TV will always be there, we will never get rid of it or ban it that’s our right to watch it. On the other hand the family should spend more time together verses watching television all the time. If the parents cannot control what there kids watch then don’t let them watch television when they are not there.
What are important to consider about programs like this are, what messages adolescents are receiving from these types of television shows and how much is at face value. They can’t necessarily digest the amount of satire or the relation of these jokes to real life situations. In Peacocke’s article, Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious, she exhibits the notions of any Family Guy fan but explains that although the motive of this show, even throughout all the dark humor and twisted jokes, it should not be taken seriously, just a means to find entertainment or a quick laugh. An adult maybe about to pick the syntax of the show apart but how badly does the show fester in younger minds? Seeing various age groups watch this show I can see that many of them aren’t laughing at the well-structured jokes Family Guy makes but at the simple ones or scenes they personally think are hilarious, like fat jokes or making fun of teachers.
SpongeBob SquarePants There are many people who have been at work all day who just want to come home and relax while lying on the sofa enjoying a good television show. Unfortunally, it may be difficult for some people who have children to do this. Why is this? Most children usually tend to need some sort of entertainment and most parents would not want to leave them outside without some sort of supervision. So, what do some parents do to get their so-called "relaxation" time?
I have noticed when I visit friends and their families are gathered around the TV set, the experience is quite boring until I join them on the couch. Ehrenreich also establishes that the “American people” have turned into the all to familiar term, “couch potato.” While not all want to admit it all of us at some point have spent hours upon hours watching our favorite television show and in that moment are a couch potato. Ehrenreich makes it clear that at one point she herself was a common couch potato she also describes the various other activities that could replace the hours
Although our world has TV, most people do not solely rely on TV as much as they do. In 451 you see Montag on the subway creating a scene because he was sick of the constant commercials. This even happens to people in our society well. Mildred is the representation of an everyday citizen in the world of 451, and you see her spend all of her time in front of her three wall TV. It seems to me that throughout the years TV has become more popular, and most people have at least one TV in their house.
The title “Violent Media is Good for Kids” is extremely blunt and the reader knows exactly what his stance is before they even read it. However the title makes you want to read it because it is going against the social norm and makes you curious as to what Gerard Jones has to say. The words Jones has chosen for his title could have been chosen a bit more carefully. He uses the word “good”, now the reader does not really know what good means just by looking at the title but can assume that he feels positively about violent media and children. Also by using the word “media” in the title it deceives the reader and makes them think that they would be reading Jones talk about all media including; newspapers, movies, magazines, television shows, etc., but all he writes about are violent comics.
Censorship in television really relies on the person whom is watching either TV or a movie. But in most cases there is an underage kid who cannot watch certain things that should be censored and not all channels and movies are censored. Programs shown over television may contain offensive language or visuals, which may be harmful for the viewers like children. I believe that all programs on television should be censored by the government or a responsible group or even
“Most adults, has some concerns for their children watching those shows. They had a thought that they might influence their kids to do some bad things in life because of the violence in the shows”(Feinstein 2). But that was not the only thing that they might have thought would influence their kids, “comedians were now on television too, and it was big for them because they could say stuff they could not say on the radio” (Adam 2). That did not top their daughters and sons from watching television; it is not like they could watch it all the time. Plus, there were only a few
