Emergency Management is changing every day and the biggest factor in preparing for any event is intelligence and communications. In the past natural disasters were hard to avoid, however, in the day and age of technology an emergency manager can use so many tools to prepare for the once unknown. One example of new technology is emergency dispatchers are now using NG911 (Next Generation), which one can email, text, send videos and pictures of an incident. Technology is used in just about every type of natural disaster and emergency managers are becoming more knowledgeable about events. The biggest factor in any major situation is being prepared and having every resource available. I think and feel that emergency response technology is a one that is changing the world for today and tomorrow. I plan on discussing how Technology in Emergency Management is changing form the past, present, and how it will change the future. Emergency management involves plans, structures and arrangements established to engage government, volunteer, businesses and nonprofits in a comprehensive and coordinated way to mitigate the implications of a disaster, terrorist attack or emergency. Emergency management is divided into three distinct phases. During a crisis event, bringing the right information, at the right time, to the right person, can significantly impact the quality of decision making for First Responders as well as the general public. A technology such as geographic information systems (GIS) allows emergency management professionals to quickly see the extent of the damages, maps of the affected area, and analyze data. The Federal emergency management agency FEMA is increasing its use of technology. Effective decision making during a crisis can be directly attributed to saving lives and property.
