Technology and Its Effects on Student Learning Monique Y. Alexander Our Lady of the Lake University Abstract In today’s society, education has changed tremendously. In classrooms, students’ ability to learn had been altered by several stipulations such as disabilities, behaviors and the training of teachers. In this analysis, I will discuss how technology has played a major role in how students learn and the best tool that has proven results and success. The tool that I feel with best assist students in the learning process is the Apple I-Pad. Technology and Its Effects on Student Learning In today’s society, having an education is the gateway to everything. Currently teachers work to engage and educate students, but there are many concerns as to why students are not successful at learning. Some students seem naturally enthusiastic about learning, but may need or expect their instructor to inspire, challenge and stimulate them. “Effective learning in the classroom depends on the teacher’s ability to maintain the interest that brought students to the course in the first place (Ericksen, 1978, p. 3).” In order for a student to engage in the learning process, the learning must be relevant to the student. The content must be specific, concise and fast. Most students feel that they don’t need to learn everything immediately. Instead, they want to be taught how and where to find what they need when they need it. Students also don’t believe that their coursework is relevant, the teaching that they are subjected to does not match their learning styles and they experience a lack of attention. How does this contribute to the issue of student learning? My objective of this analysis is to discuss why learning for students is difficult and how technology plays an integrate part in the process.
