Describe the importance of “behavioural aspects” of international business Teamwork is an essential part of running a successful organisation, especially if it is an internationally based business. Teamwork is defined as a group of people who cooperate with each other to complete a set task or to reach a given goal. It is beneficial to an organisation but problems can also arise within the team. International organisations also to resolve situations regarding cultures and backgrounds. There are many people however, who prefer to work individually. Working individually places the burden on the individual, as they must solely complete the work to a high standard. Furthermore, the individual will carry a heavier workload whereas working within a team would allow the workload to be shared. The advantage of working individually is that there are fewer problems to deal with than working within a team. Additionally it allows the individual to become more independent as they do not have to rely on anyone to do the work and can also work at their own pace. However, teamwork does also have advantages and can be hugely beneficial to an organisation. Companies that encourage teamwork require “individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work” (Lombardi n.d). Teamwork allows co-workers to get to know one another that allow the environment to become less hostile. Organisations aim for team members to maximise their strengths and minimise their weaknesses. The organisation also wants to raise team members’ confidence so individuals can put forward ideas and any concerns they might have can be brought forward. Members can also be motivated by others in the group and this endorses individuals to focus and produce work which is of a high standard.
