Team Cohesion and Team Performance

In this essay I will be explaining to you the relationship between Team Cohesion and Team Performance. Team Cohesion is what keeps any group or team together after the team bonding. A cohesive team can exhibit either type however high-performance teams have been shown to exhibit both. “A high-performance team works together to achieve mutual goals, recognizes that each member is accountable and committed to achieving team goals, communicates effectively with each other, shares the joy of achievement and the pain of not meeting goals, shares information, helps each other, and recognizes that the success of the group is dependent upon each individual. Team cohesion focuses on how being a part of a group inferences performance as well as how factors influence group behaviour, group performance better and group members are most satisfied when they are cohesive that is, they stick together remain united in pursuing goals. The relationship of cohesion to performance is complex. The evidence is convincing that success leads to higher cohesion, but less convincing whether cohesion leads to subsequent improved performance. Effective team performance motivates athletes to take responsibility for their job performance and produce superior outputs. In most cases, a consistent demand for a quality performance yields the best results. Managing the performance of the team is a real challenge because it requires a lot of tact, and discipline. For instance, negative feedback should always be paired with motivation and should not be given too frequently. A team should understand the functions and roles of its members. The leader should be able to establish continuous communication lines and set clear goals that are understood.
