Teaching English speech etiquette in high school Terms of communication in the modern world, where foreign language is a means of intercultural communication, led to an understanding of the purpose of teaching foreign language in high school as forming students’ foreign language communicative competence – an integrative formation that incorporates some basic skills: language, speech, socio-cultural, teaching and strategic, which, in turn, also include a range of competencies. Cultural aspect of teaching any language covers extra linguistic (non-verbal speech etiquette, information on the history and geography, the traditions of the country whose language is being studied) and linguistic (verbal speech etiquette, idiom, aphorisms as national-cultural component, etc.) material. This article is concerned with linguistic material of cultural aspect of teaching English. One of the phenomena, which can be attributed to the contents of several foreign-language competences, is speech etiquette. Speech etiquette is generally understood as a system of stable formulas of communication, which is attributed by the society to establish contact between communicants, to support communication in the selected register according to the social roles of communicants and their communicative aim. Many scientists repeatedly emphasized the need for the study of speech etiquette because it is one of the indicators of international relations in language, culture and an important component part of the overall system of ethics in society (Simpson, 2011). The speech etiquette is the communicative phenomenon, which is influenced by a variety of factors that contribute to communication: linguistic, psychological, social, national, and ethnic.
