TDA 3.4 Promote Children’s And Young People's Positive Behaviour. has a behaviour for learning policy in place that states “Learning is at the heart of this policy, and therefore the acknowledgement of appropriate behaviour, aspiration and achievement must be visible in every classroom/workspace”. I believe that high self-esteem can lead to good behaviour, co-operative attitudes, high achievement and better attendance. The school has 2 key aims in regards to promoting positive behaviour, which are: PRIDE: This encourages the children to take pride in themselves and their school. CELEBRATE: The main focus on this aim is to celebrate the children’s achievements and rewards them for their hard work and good behaviour. Our main procedure for promoting good behaviour is a reward system called ‘HOUSE POINTS’. The children are given ‘HOUSE POINTS (HP)’ for a number of reasons, these can be: 100% Attendance- this carries a maximum amount of 25 HP and an optional chance of a non-school uniform day. This can only be awarded by the Head Teacher. Improved Attitude and Behaviour-this carries a maximum of 10 HP. This can be awarded by any member of staff. Academic Achievement-this carries a maximum award of 10HP. This again can be awarded by any member of staff. Once a child gains a certain amount of HP’s they get a certificate to celebrate this achievement, which is awarded at the celebratory assembly in front of staff, peers and parents. We have recently brought in to a new literacy scheme called Read,Write Inc., this scheme encourages praise by using an action clap and saying. I personally like this way of encouraging the praise as it gets everyone motivated and involved. At St. Georges we are committed to making every child in the school feels safe, secure and protected. We follow the Every Child Matters (ECM) programme, and are constantly trying to achieve
