Polished rose travertine stone line the rotunda, lobby and halls on the first floor. As you enter the rotunda you will notice the state seal embedded on the floor. The seal and Pioneer were sculpted by Ulric Ellerhausen. The rotunda walls are covered with four murals that represent pieces of Oregon history. The senate is on the left side of the building and the house is on the right.
The vault is built with cream-colored stone and bricks that are uniform throughout the entire building. The area that contains the vault is the tallest part of the entire structure. This allows the vault to be a lot taller than the rest of the ceilings in the structure. The vaulted area uses large arched doorways on both sides to allow for a lot of sunlight to enter the vault. This sunlight reaches up to the ceilings and lights up the cream brick at the peak of the vault.
It is a beautiful kiwi lime green stone surrounded by shimmering diamonds. The green stone is so clear and smooth it almost looks like a piece of glass. The shimmering diamonds sparkle so clean and transparent they almost look as if I touch them they would feel wet. The rays of sunlight catch the brilliance of the gorgeous antique etching on the side of my ring. The ring is a white color reminding me of my grandmothers antique silver platters.
In the corners are marble fountains that are re-creations from the Villa dei Papri. And a narrow pool is in the center and is lined with replicas of bronze statues that resemble women that would have once been found at the Villa dei Papiri. As I walk around the colonnade I notice the coffered ceiling. This ceiling imitates stone ceilings found on the Street of the Tombs in Pompeii. The colonnades floor is paved with terrazzo.
Consequently, both structures are axially aligned around the center of their dome. An esthetic quality that they both share is the tendency to draw the viewer’s eyes to the very top of the dome. For the Pantheon, this is because, when inside the dome, the viewer’s light source comes from an oculus at the top of the dome. There are even a great number of coffers (elaborate depressions in the concrete surface) that assist the eye by pointing to the oculus. Gardner's Art through the Ages reveals
With the distinct Victorian architecture in mind, architects designed extraordinary buildings such as the State Library, University of Melbourne and the Royal Exhibition Building. Many houses and buildings had wrought iron lacework to decorate the verandas. They also had even slated roof and several buildings had domes or spires to their rooftops. Any person walking through the street of Melbourne in the 1800s could see the amazing architecture the city had to offer. The clothing of Melbourne city was said to be the best and always in fashion.
One that stands out the most is the Hall of Noble Words at the eastern end of the library. The hall was named for the noble words that are painted on the concrete ceiling beams. Dr. Battle again was the one who selected these quotes. These words are from a variety of sources including the Bible, classical and modern poetry, an inscription on the Temple at Delphi, and famous Texans. The beams supports contain the printer’s marks of famous early printers.
Handrails united together in perfect circumference acting as a crown. Elegantly embroidered trimmings that mount the walls and ceiling illustrate the delicacy and tenderness of a woman. The sky light of the Rotunda creates a halo from heaven to earth, sending chills down your spinal column as if even Jefferson’s creation would replicate a direct connection with the Lord
The bell tower was built in 1990 and stands 236 feet tall and is one of Orange County's tallest structures (Crystal, 2011). It was built from a polished, mirrored quality, stainless steel prisms forming a spectacular spire which catches the light from all directions and houses a 52-bell carillon (Crystal, 2011). From the outside the cathedral is very smooth and contemporary. Inside the cathedral you can see the high arches and ceilings and the bell tower completes the gothic
It was a complex home. The palace is two stories, and has a large courtyard. The walls of the palace were covered in art work. The rooms on the ground floor were very large, and each had a purpose to it. Columns were used to support each floor.
