When just having a eighteen hour flight, you get your luggage and go through the last security check, you just want to get rid of your chewing gum that (most of the people) had in the airplane, and head to the taxi/bus/train to your next destination. In the beginning it was not THAT obvious that there were only few/no trashcans, because I was at the airport. But when arriving at Taipei Main Station itself, we wanted to just explore the city since we weren’t tired after sleeping in the plane. Just wanting to grab something to drink at the almost every corner convenient stores, and explore the beautiful, largest city in Taiwan, Taipei. When finishing our drink, we struggled to get rid of our garbage. In the beginning we were wondering that perhaps the trashcans or litterbins looked slightly different than what we were used to in our home country The Netherlands. But at a certain point I began to doubt myself, how could it ever be possible that in 6 blocks, I have missed every single litterbin? Secondly, the streets were not even comparable with China, Shanghai. I did my internship in Shanghai for 6 months and the garbage where even if there is a litterbin 5 feet near you, that you would still see garbage all over the floor. In comparison with China, Shanghai, the streets of Taiwan, Taipei, were clean as a whistle. When arriving at the apartment that I will call home for the coming 6 months, my roommate told me that outdoors there will be no litterbins on the streets. The only ‘loophole’ for when you
