Nyiakki Height February 10, 2013 Ms. Santiago English 101 Journal #1 “Go Get It” by the hip-hop rap artist, Clifford Harris (Also known as T.I.), relates to the overcoming of past troubles that the author experienced. The author talks about his high priced life style and recent problems - which refers to his previous arrests. The goal of his song lyrics is to get the audience to recognize that no matter what the obstacle is, nothing should be able to keep one from his or her goal if that is something they truly desire. T.I. tries to accomplish the goal by giving a prime example of his self while using several rhetorical strategies. He uses repetition and pathos to connect with the audience and clarify his point. Throughout the song, it constantly repeat the phrase “go get it” to help present the message of the song. That also supports his attempt to connect with the audience because everyone in life wants to attain some type of goal. T.I. uses the element of pathos by sharing his bad experiences with the law, which most people can relate to. In his lyrics, he says, “A sophisticated convict, superficial, still official, multimillion dollar, money is the object”. That means although he may have been locked up, he still keeps it classy. Official is meant to mean businesslike, as in suitable for the office, and the only object necessary of focus is money. He realizes that no matter the obstacle, he has to stay focus and “go get it”. Throughout the song, T.I. uses a particular choice of words to grab the audience attention. He uses words such as multimillion, money, and dream house. It is like a commercial; they show the audience something that will catch their attention. T.I. does something similar by rapping about things his audience would be interested to hear.
