Symbolism Symbolism is a huge part of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. There are many symbols and metaphorical objects that the common reader does not tend to think about. There are many hidden meanings behind these common objects, and sometimes a respectable lesson. Some of these symbols may include the use of wands, a unicorn, the mirror of Erised, the sorcerer’s stone, centaurs, etc. Symbols like these have a big part in the story and should be more acknowledged. Wands represent the connection between the wand holder and magic. Harry had a wand made of Holly and phoenix feathers. Phoenix feathers represent his rebirth, from when Voldemort failed to kill Harry after Voldemort killed Harrys his parents. Voldemort too has a wand made of phoenix feathers which already sets Harrys inescapable fate. “I remember every wand I’ve ever sold, Mr. Potter. Every single wand. It so happens that the phoenix whose tail feather is in your wand, gave another feather--- just one other. The way Varela 2 that Voldemort killed a creature so pure can also show how evil he is. Voldemort killed the unicorn for its blood, so he can drink it and sustain his life. Unicorns symbolize purity, calmness, and life, when Voldemort killed the unicorn, it forewarned the reader that calmness and life were about to end.
